I don't fit the bill at all. I didn't like any of it. Meanwhile, you dropped those nuggets about Luke being a Jedi master training new recruits, and Leia being a major figure in the new republic, which are things the EU featured prominently.

Luke had a temple and something happened to it. He wasn't ready to be a true master. He thought he was, due to his own deeds, but he was imperfect and it caused a lot of pain. We came in near the end of his story, not the middle.
I was just talking about the natural starting point and progress from the end of RotJ.

Luke was set to pass on his knowledge. Yoda wanted him to do this and there was nothing more to teach. Vader said Luke's training was complete. A sequel featuring this plot point was highly anticipated for decades. TFA takes place 30 years after RotJ and instead of starting off with Luke getting better, he actually got worse and completely failed as a jedi.

Leia was also set to help rebuild the republic. We never saw the new republic and couldn't get invested in it. For some reason Leia could lead a small rebel alliance to victory against the mighty Empire, but as general of the New Republic's military she gets put on the ropes by an upstart enemy army that was built right under her nose.

The sequels are fine in their own right, but Disney threw out decades of anticipation for rehash storylines and subverted expectations. At least the prequels, though heavily flawed, gave us fans the story we were waiting to see.

I stepped into a Goodwill a few weeks ago. I purchased A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi on VHS for $3.

No CGI Jabba the Hutt. No Darth Vader screaming "NO!!" Just the original Star Wars films as they were always meant to be; raw and unfiltered. That's Star Wars to me. Everything else is just gravy.

Give me an Old Republic trilogy or something. We've done the prequel. We've done the sequel. Let's go waaaaaaay back.

Terra-enforcer: "You were right. I was wrong. I'm a filthy welcher."
