Recently I've been looking into the 'Nofap' side of the internet, & the more & more I look into it, the more I feel like there's a misunderstanding going on here

The main problem you will hear from someone doing nofap, is that they are usually addicted, & it was ruining themselves/their life. Now, if this is the case for someone, to where porn is messing up your life/knocking you off your mental, then I'd say 100% you should go Nofap and rejuvenate yourself

However, these same people seem to think porn is suddenly the spawn of satan, just because they fucked themSELVES up. They seem to forget one crucial fact

Their only like that because they've gotten themSELVES addicted to that point.. Some people might get addicted to video games, & can't function at all without them. Should they turn their back on videogames & blame the hobby for their lack of self-control/discipline? I don't think so..

I seen someone mention how porn is like a weapon, & that it depends on who is using it. It can be used for good, or for self destruction. That really depends on you.. If you have a healthy moderation, with awareness of reality vs fiction, then porn can be a cool expressive hobby for pretty much anyone. Atleast for me.

I don't watch much modern porn but sometimes I watch feature length pornos from the 70s/80s. There were some really exciting and artistic things going on back then.

Pretty sure that happens if you do it 24/7 all day. Which is what majority of Nofap people will tell you they suffered from. In that case, yeah, nofap was a good option for them

The concept of porn itself isnt bad but the industry is exceedingly harmful. Like every industry in capitalism extracts surplus value from its labor force but the porn industry seems to be even more cruel and ruthless than usual about it. Performers are exploited at unheard of rates because of the stigma that society holds against their work (which the industry takes full advantage of), and there are endless horror stories about assaults, mistreatment, injuries, etc. on sets all the time.

Id say that the work is not a whole lot different than any other form of entertainment labor. Youre being paid a wage in exchange for using your body to create media that generates capital for a company. I dont think that society stigmatizing sex work is inherently good or bad, but rather that the fact that the porn industry uses the stigmatization of it to exploit their workers is bad.

When you cut out the middleman, you're going to see a lot more people engaging in certain types of behaviour in less than healthy ways. Literally anyone of any age can hop on the computer whenever they want and access unlimited porn of any type for free within a few seconds. That's sure as shit a lot different than having to actually go out to a video store or sex shop, show ID, browse the tapes in person and then select what you want, pay for your stuff and then find a nice private time to use the VCR or DVD player if you don't live alone or have that shit set up in your bedroom. There were enough barriers there that your average person was probably just fantasizing about T&A or if they were lucky, jacking it to amateur pics of their S/O rather than having hardcore shit uploaded to their brain with hundreds of new models and videos daily. >_>

It's like that for anything that has an instant gratification element though. Smart phones are a big one. The Internet itself. Social media. Binging TV shows. Porn. Eating sugar/junk/fast food. All this shit throttles the same areas of the brain that drugs do, and lead to similar addiction and withdrawal symptoms. Obviously jacking it to porn isn't as harmful as taking a hit off a crack pipe, but it isn't free from negative effects either and probably cannot be enjoyed "in moderation" by most people either. Same thing with the one person everyone knows who drinks a little too much but swears they're not an alcoholic and can stop drinking anytime. They don't have a problem, they just like to have a good time. Same thing with most porn users imo, I've fallen into that trap so many times tbh.
