Not sure, guess some stuff I've known my entire life (I.E. Who Vader is, if Yoda lives, if Obi Wan lives, etc) I just considered to be common knowledge.

Episode 1 (minus jar jar) is fun. Ep3 is awful, I don't get how most people consider this their favorite. Emo anakin is so awful. Which plays into ep3 being very Meh. Some good set pieces, but nothing that really makes it stand out as good or bad to my memory of not watching the prequels since ep7 came out.

Introduces what you need to know (Luke, Leia, Chewbacca, Yoda, Vader, the Emperor, etc) then let's you watch the build up of the Empire, turn of Vader, etc then let's you see the conclusion

why that order?

I'm trying to preserve the surprise of a first-time viewer regarding Darth Vader's identity reveal in 5, assuming they haven't already learned it via pop culture osmosis. It's an experience I wouldn't deprive anybody who watches Star Wars for the first time, if I can.

After that, between 5 and 6 there's a pretty big implied gulf of events(especially from Luke's power spike and character growth), not to mention that after the big reveal the person would probably be dying to know how this thing exactly happened, so, as if roleplaying Luke delving back into the events of the past to find out the truth, segue into the prequels and show off what exactly happened decades prior.

Once that's revealed, wrap up the original story with 6.

Release order is literally always better with movies.

It usually is with video games too, but you have some exceptions like Metroid.

I watched 2 and 3 again today.

AotC's primary purpose is to set up the love between Anakin and Padme and to show Anakin's first dip into the dark side ( mom's death ) and to introduce the Clone Wars so you're not just dropped into the middle of a context-less battle in the beginning of RotS.

TPM is easily the most skippable because all it really serves is, is as an introduction for Anakins origin story and introducing Palpatine's rise to Senatorial power, which honestly was a little too rushed.
