any of you watch this INCREDIBLE show? it took me TEN years to find after I heard about it. I finally did and it is my fav show ever. no other show has writing this good

I was watching it when it aired like 2 episodes a week on syfy or something like 10 years ago buy for reasons I dont remember I never saw how it ended. I have no idea how far I was or how many episodes there are. Sometime I want to get back into it and see the whole thing

Monster is interesting because I honestly can't really remember what it was about, I just remember it being the most gripping anime I've ever seen.

All I remember is that there's a creepy kid who becomes a creepy man that should have died, and a doctor who shouldn't have saved him who is trying to track him down. Everyone is terrified of the kid but no one really knows why.

this topic had me look for places to buy the complete series, and I found it on eBay for Blu-ray, but it's about $150

the kid, Johan, is basically an extremely intelligent and charismatic serial killer, who was born through a Nazi eugenics program, and is somehow often able to corrupt others around him, getting them to do horrible things that they wouldn't have done otherwise...and his only real goal is to be the last one standing at the end of the world

I couldn't finish the anime for some reason, but I read the whole manga. It's really good, but it starts to feel meandering when he goes into Chekoslovakia and starts "befriending" random people who get one short story segment and then drop away.

Like genuinely I feel like the manga series could have been like 5 issues shorter than it is.

I mean some of them get iced sure but then you have a character like Grimmer who shows up and steals the show completely

I watched up through when the doctor saves that kid from the abuser

It was really slow paced tbh and I found the killer's backstory edgy/unconvincing

The author really lost his edge after 20th century boys. I dont all works should be turned into anime. It shoulve been adapted into real life tv show like game of throne or breaking bad.

I dropped out of the anime when I got sick of that aspect too. I could only take him making so many friends before I stopped caring.

Also it definitely was on Netflix at one point. I specifically remember it being a pain I the ass to find. It wasnt in the anime section and you had to search by "Naoki Urasawa's Monster" because it wouldn't show up if you just searched for "Monster".

I liked everything about it besides Tenma. Didn't help that he was the main character, the focus should have just shifted more to Nina or that inspector. Even Tenma's ex wife's scenes were more interesting than most of the random bs Tenma wasted time on.

Monster was almost as bad as Texhnolyze. Pacing is absolutely horrible

I liked the exposition of Tenma's ex-fiancee just as an example of how to deal with toxic people.

The pay off wasnt great after you finished watching the damn series. The author seems fixated on making every german character insufferable assholes to the point that i couldnt take this show seriously anymore. Feels like the more you watch the more anoyying it gets. Because everyone loves watching snobish pompus character with an attitude. Tenma is what the author saw himself living in the foreign world. A souless husk of a puppet that tries to move the plot with his action and inaction.
