  • I think it's clear that people don't fully mature until their early 20s.
  • Many people have oppressive parents that prevent them from doing things and can't break free of those restraints until they move out and go to college at 18 where they can start exploring options, but are socially bad because of lack of experience and need someone at their experience level, who may be a year or two younger than them
  • [US] Drinking age is 21. Getting cigs is now 21. Getting weed is now 21. So why can't we agree that 21 is the age between adult and minor?

what?

Instead of 18 [Or 16 in some states, because fuck them], I think 21 should be the age of consent law.

I don't think it's wrong that a 18-20 year old might be attracted to a 16 year old. So I think 21 should be the law for stuff like that. 16 year olds should be able to bang 20 year olds with all the consent in the world

I also think that should be 21

Adult = 21, not 18

No, I'm generally okay with it being in the 16-18 range.

I'd take the opposite approach and keep the smoking age/drinking age back to 18, but whatever.

I'm not touching this actual subject matter....But I will say, 18-25 is glorified teenage years.
It was true when I was in that age range, and even worse now from what I've noticed.

Raising the age at which you're allowed to do things doesn't (in my experience) better equip people to mature into those things. If anything it makes them more poorly socialised and therefore worse when they eventually do them.

I'm all for learning mistakes at a young age so long as you have a good support network.

I think adding legal barriers doesn't prevent the issues you're bringing up. I think it makes them worse, and forces curious teenagers dealing with hormones and social pressure to do things in a more dangerous and covert way.

People hit the 18-25 range and think they made it. But really they still have a teen mindset.
In fact it can get worse because they think they are 'there'
If by 25 you aren't over the teen mindset...you might be a goner.

Having said that. Most people never truly grow up.
One of the greatest disappointments of growing older is realizing people still hold on to their petty bs.

And if you are wondering about worse now...It's smartphones, and social media, it has severely stunted a lot of younger people's social growth. Even worse than it always was.

To be honest, I'm thinking back on personal experiences. I was in high school, still 18, and there were girls that were 16 that wanted to date/fuck me, but because I was 18 I turned them down. Because of this, I missed out on having those dating experiences

Women tend to be more attracted to older men, and men more attracted to younger women. Why make it illegal to have sex with people in the same school of you?

People were sleeping with each other as early as 7th grade when I was growing up. Theres not much stopping them. Also, the constant sharing of nudes to each other.

My only worry with raising the AOC is opening younger people to a longer period of potentially life-ending criminal charges because they shared their nudes with a classmate.

Other than that I dont care. Might be better to phase out the normalization of creeping on fresh 18-year-olds.

but it also raises a potential problem of making ephebophilia more socially acceptable, as a lot of people might think well there was nothing wrong with 18-year-olds until last week. Maybe theres nothing wrong with 15-year-olds.

idk. If it decreases grown men exploiting young girls by making them (the exploiters) more vulnerable to punishment, without harming dumbass teenagers who are just trying to figure their lives out, Im fine with raising the AOC to 21.

Why stop at 21? The brain isn't done developing at that point. It stops mid 20s to early 30s. Might as well set it at 30.
