You've got me thinking about this now.

I'd feature the Knights of Ren more, and have them be the sub-villains that the heroes pick off throughout the movie. That would give us more time to appreciate them as individual characters, and maybe sell some more toys.

I'd bring back Phasma, who survived because whatever, and have her team up with the heroes, then get killed by one of the Knights.

Not in the movie itself, but the visual dictionary implies he was either cloned or re-assembled.

i dont think there's much you could do to save that trainwreck...

Roughly:
- Kylo Ren is losing credibility because he's obsessed with finding and turning Rey
- Other First Order leadership looking to stage a coup to usurp him
- Resistance find out and plan a strike to destabilize
- Finn as a frontline hero
- Poe stepping up as Leia's successor
- maybe finn/poe love story because why not
- Rose getting a subplot where she goes around the galaxy to recruit systems to the cause
- Rey turning Ben during their confrontation, them joining forces with the Resistance being the tipping point in the conflict
- good guys win
- ending scene is after Rey and Ben have made out/had sex or whatever and he leaves to travel the galaxy and atone

Setting up a TV series where Ben visits a new solar system every episode, learning first hand how the FO affected the people, doing his best to atone, while also teaching them basic Force stuff, laying the ground for a more grassroots Jedi paradigm rather than a monolithic dogmatic order

When Ben Solo dies (and delete that kiss), Force Ghost Anakin uses the force to say he finally learned the ability to save the ones he loved, and revives Ben.

Most importantly it would not take place in a very short period of time, that part imo severely limited all the sequel trilogy movies

Also, turn down all that "super force" abilities, like Force Skype and Force healing and Force transporting-because-the-plot-needs-stuff

Just put Kylo as the main villain along with the knights. Maybe make Hux less of a jabroni, and maybe his betrayal actually helps take Kylo down. Carry Kylo's manic and unpredictable behavior. Don't make a fleet of star destroyers with death stars attached to them. Expand on what first order society is actually like. I don't like Rose in 8, but I also disagree with dropping her like a bag if dirt in the sequel.

Edit: Also the good guys win by killing Kylo and crippling the First Order. No redemption arc is crucial.

These are the general changes I would make.

It was stupid but they had to do it after 8's dumbass "miniaturized Death Star tech" cannon that literally could have just been amy cannon without changing the story at all.

I mean, there's such a thing as "show don't tell." I think showing the effects of the First Order rather than saying they do bad stuff is much more powerful. That part of the movie where they're on that planet to decode the knife's message was the closest we got, because the Stormtroopers there actually felt scary with them bothering civilians and looking for recruits by force.

I think bringing Palps back was fine, they just handled it terribly, much like most of the movie. First, you don't reveal hes back in the opening credits, and you don't have him hand wave his being alive with a throw away line.

He should have been a Sith ghost somehow, with his ultimate plan being to take over Rey's body as his own so he could actually be alive again. Make the rest of the movie about Kylo vs Rey and First Order vs Resistance. Then make Endor the climax with Palps ghost there. Would have to come up with a good reason for them to go to Endor, some how Palps can lure them there I don't know.

I'd much rather see a more personal and character driven story as opposed to saving the galaxy from destruction for the hundredth time. Stakes don't have to be world (or galaxy) ending. Just a simple plot of Palps trying to come back would work so much better imo.

Have the First Order be Thrawn's baby and with Snoke gone he steps in to bring order to a chaotic galaxy. Also use Ezra Bridger and the crew of the Ghost somehow.

Anyway, I'd have changed a lot, Emperor or no.

I'd have killed Chewie.

I'd have done something better with Rey's staff than make it a symbol of her association to the dark side. Maybe make her dual wield lightsaber and staff or give her a custom staff-like saber or something. Even a double-blade in the end scene. What they actually did was moronic.

I'd have had a scene where they explain how Rey got Luke's saber back after giving it to Leia at the beginning. Or you know what, just not have had Leia in the film at all.

I'd have taken out that stupid Rey/Ben kiss and not killed him.

I'd have cut most of C3PO's dialog.

I'd have done something with Emperor's apparent bluff that he would possess Rey if she killed him.

I'd have added a line or two where they explain why Rey decided to leave the defeated Kylo his lightsaber.

I'd have not had the giant Star Destroyer fleet emerge from the water because how the hell was that even necessary in the first place.

Yeah the kiss was dumb. They spent 3 movies practically trying to kill each other. A long hug would've been enough and him fading while she's embracing would've been cool

- 2 year time skip
- Luke's sacrifice has inspired a lot of the Galaxy. The First Order has never felt more resistance. Force sensitive children and young adults are awakening throughout the Galaxy.
- Leia and Rey have been teaching some Force sensitive Resistance members in the Force. Rey also gets guidance from Luke's ghost. She has Finn as an apprentice. Rey has her own yellow lightsaber.
- Leia recently left to try and save her son
- Kylo Ren is on Exogol and has the same resources Palpatine and his previous Sith Lords had. When he killed Snoke he also took on the throne as Sith Lord. Kylo decides that the Rule of Two must end and he is using First Order resources to kidnap potential Force sensitive children and he has been training them in the ways of the Dark Side. His apprentices are the Knights of Ren
- Rey and Kylo constantly but they're unable to find each other. Rey and the Resistance are trying to find Exogol to stop Kylo and the First Order
- Rey and her apprentices are leaked the location of Exogol by Hux. When Rey, Kylo and their apprentices confront each other Hux uses this opportunity to attempt a coup, destroy Exogol and turn the First Order troops against all Force users
- The Jedi and Sith have to team up to stop Hux and stop his planet destroying ship. Rey shows the Sith recruited children that the Light Side is the way to go when fighting back. This is when Rey learns that the Force isn't something to be hidden. It should be knowledge that is shared with everyone
- Meanwhile the instability causes the Resistance around the Galaxy to fight back and gain independence
- After Hux is defeated Rey and Kylo have one final battle that decides the future of their Orders. Rey wins but Kylo isn't killed. He starts to regret and think about everything he has done which finally opens his mind to Anakin's Force Ghost and he learns that he can always attempt to atone. The Resistance declares a New Republic (again)
- Rey and Kylo talk in his jail cell. Kylo has let go of his anger and lives with regret of what he did to his father. He warns that not all of his Sith disciples will go to the Light. Rey says there are Jedi Temples opening all over the Galaxy that are ready
- The final scene is Rey teaching Jedi pupils on Tattooine the story about Anakin and Luke Skywalker

I'd go with something like that if I had no input before this movie.
