There's more. You need to beat the game with every character besides Watcher, then 3 colored keys are added to your runs. Get all 3 keys in a run and you go to act 4 after the 3rd boss.

Finally beat Ascension 20 with the watcher on thursday. I had a generally easier time getting there with watcher than any other character, but actually beating it was way harder with her for some reason.

Those little difficulty spikes that ascension adds make a difference. A4 specifically buffs damage on bosses.

I don't know the names of anyone. The one that gains life at the end of combat by default. That's the only one I've made it to 4 with. Watcher seems like the newest one, and I haven't used it yet. I'm trying with the Poison guy right now

In my experience, just get lucky.

You avoid taking too many skills if you have an elite fight early because it could be him.

Use whatever potions you have that can help and just eat the damage and kill him as fast as possible. Defends aren't worth playing, especially if he's made you vulnerable

Pretty much this. As you build your deck you need to keep in mind that there are fights that are made specifically to counter certain builds so you need to have a back up plan and be careful about what you pick up. Like Tarkus said, if you have an early elite fight, take less skills before it because there's a good chance it's Gremlin Nob who will punish you for loading up on skills.

Also on the first act there are very few fights you should even take damage on aside from elites and the 5 slimes or 5 gremlins fight that you can get late (I also think those are two of the worst fights in the whole game btw)

Its tough to get the hang of at first. Youll figure it out eventually. Start by playing Ironclad and trying to take no more than 6 damage on any fight aside from Elites and try to take as little damage as possible on them.

If you don't want to trail and error, or if you've hit the point where trail and erroring doesn't work anymore. One of the better ways to learn is to just watch. It lets you take a step back and see what people are doing that you aren't.

For me I got stuck on A20 and after watching a friend play a bit the big thing I realized I was undervaluing was card draw. I would have a good run and lose because I didn't have any way to get to the cards I needed. The only reason I even got to 20 was I played so much that I'd eventually have a run where I was lucky enough to do so and that's how I got my wins.

What is your general strategy? Try to keep as little cards as possible? That used to be mine, so it's easier to get the cards you needs. Just like in MTG. But that doesn't seem to be working anymore. They just do too much damage

The Silence would be much better if I could get those f'n cards that have Thorn so I can Block and damage them with Thorn and with Poison

take the good cards, don't take the bad cards

an important thing to do is consider what you have that will allow you to beat the various hard fights in the game. you might have a nice combo of blocks and attacks going but if you don't have any sort of scaling you will have a hard time with the second half of the champ fight (blue knight a2 boss). Or you might have a bunch of strong powers that take a while to get going and then you get rolled by all the bosses/elites that just hit hard right out of the gate

My decks are rarely below 30 cards unless I happen to get more than average opportunities to get rid of cards.

Pathing: I generally aim to hit the most amount of elites per act that I feel I can safely fight. This generally means sticking to elites that are surrounded by at least one campfire, preferably two unless that means its the only elite I can face. Ideal pathing to me gives me four possible elites with at least one safe path away from them with a campfire in case a fight goes badly.

Deck building: Don't build theme decks. Decks need to be able to do several things; deal damage (AOE and single target, don't neglect either one), block damage, scale your damage/defense to keep up with boss/elites and cycle through the deck to minimize the chances of drawing stuff you don't need at the moment. Keep the stuff you're lacking in mind when you choose cards. If you've got ten damage cards and four block cards, you probably shouldn't be taking more damage unless you can't find any block cards.

The last one is probably my weak point when it comes to deck building. I get strongly tempted to just take every card I like, and have to force myself to start skipping cards I don't need. Those generally being damage cards in later acts or taking too many scaling cards/powers. Scaling cards/powers aren't typically neccessary in a lot of hallway fights and can hurt your chances of drawing block/damage cards. Its a balancing act. After awhile, too much just dilutes your odds of drawing the cards you need to draw, when you need to draw them.

Oh, if you aren't doing it already, remove as many strikes as you can get away with once you get past the act 1 elites. Strikes are basically among the worst cards that aren't curses/status cards.

Still need to unlock cards for it

So far I have beaten the third boss with both Iron and Poison. Need to still beat it with the robot and the new one. I do really like this new one - just turtle until you can unleash SSJ and have a bunch of 0 cost attacks stored up

The watcher has three cards which end your turn automatically when you play them; Conclude, meditate and vault. Vault gives you another turn though.

And time eater ends your turn and buffs after you play twelve cards. He's the weird bipedal slug thing carrying a clock. The trick to him is carefully making sure you don't play too many cards and leave yourself a turn where you can only play 1 or 2 cards

I've been playing this a lot but think I'm kinda burnt out in it atm. Like I'll have a great run with the ironclad but it'll just fall apart in the 3rd 'map'. Like my furthest run I just could not consistently build up enough block while simultaneously attacking on the 3rd boss (it was two monsters who alternated attacks). Its just ugh

I have it on gamepass, was gonna grab it on steam the other day to play the Watcher, but didn't have time to play it so I decided to get later. Mistake on my part cause when I went to get it yesterday it was no longer 50% off. Guess I'll wait for Watcher to release on consoles, or for the next steam sale.

It can be tough. The back one buffs the pair's strength when he isn't attacking, so you really want to prioritize taking him down.

Have you played it on ascension? The structure of the game doesn't change, besides getting harder with each ascension level, or doing weird stuff with custom mode. There's no act 5 or anything.

Although there's a fairly sizable modding community. I'm not sure how many mods are now invalid with the new patch but i'm sure those will get fixed.
