His attacks don't just all nearly kill you, even with completely maxed out stats, but they inflict you with crippling status effects, as well only these are different these can't be countered by Void. In fact, if you enter the battle equipped with anything that reflects or absorbs any element, Demi-Fiend kills you in one hit.

Worse than this is his infuriatingly strong Gaea Rage attack which, in a game with a HP cap of 999, does 7,000 damage! Unlike any other optional boss out there, you can only win this battle with a little luck on your side.
The way to survive this attack is to equip Null Sleep, hope one of Demi-Fiend's minions casts sleep on a character at the right moment, and that that character then doesn't receive damage from the mega Gaea Rage attack while asleep.
Oh, and if that wasn't enough, there's one more thing. His minions not only constantly negate the effects you cast on him, but enjoy healing him to full health from time to time, too.

Additionally, it can take up to an hour to beat him.

Imagine spending an hour in this BS and coming close to beating him, only for something to go horribly wrong or you just get unlucky and end up losing.

I've got an idea for a new super boss. You don't actually fight it, the game just generates a random number from 0-255, and if it happens to be 213 you win. Anything else is a game over. Imagine the satisfaction you'd get in finally beating it.

Beyond all the other BS, doesn't Demi-Fiend have a "time-limit" that after a certain turn, he'll just Gaea's Rage over and over again?

The funny thing about Demi-Fiend is that his boss music is random encounter music from SMT Nocturne. It's an uphill struggle just to survive this guy, and he still only sees you as a random encounter. Now that's just rubbing salt in the wound!

Hard JRPG bosses are usually just about making sure your character is stacked.

Even with max stats and HP, his attacks can still take over half your health in 1 round. Plus his minions will either debuff you or cast insta-death spells every round that you cant block as well as status ailments that you hope doesn't hit you.

His minions only fully heal Demi-fiend once on their own when he drops below half health. But they have an internal counter for every time they act, and when it hits 30, they kill themselves and full heal everyone on the enemy side. And he has infinite minions to summon, so you have to kill them on a steady pace instead of just focusing on Demi-fiend the whole fight.

You don't a reward in this game, but when you transfer your save to the sequel, you get an accessory that gives +10 to all stats which is good, but not amazing >_>
