Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has improved his standing in the national Democratic race for president, joining former Vice President Joe Biden in a two-person top tier above the rest of the field, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

The poll marks the first time Biden has not held a solo lead in CNN's national polling on the race.

Overall, 27% of registered voters who are Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents back Sanders, while 24% favor Biden. The margin between the two is within the poll's margin of sampling error, meaning there is no clear leader in this poll. Both, however, are significantly ahead of the rest of the field, including Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 14% and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 11%. Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg lands at 5% in the poll, while Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and businessman Andrew Yang each hold 4% support. Businessman Tom Steyer has 2%. No other candidate reaches 1% support.

Sanders has made gains nearly across the board, clearly pulling away from Warren among liberals (33% back Sanders, while 19% support Warren in the new poll), a group where the two had been running closely through much of the fall. Sanders has also pulled about even with Biden among voters of color (30% for Sanders, 27% for Biden).

Asked whether a woman can win the US presidency, a whopping 84% of voters say yes, but there is a notable gender divide here. While only 9% of men say a women could not win the U.S. presidency, that figure about doubles among women, 20% of whom say no, a woman cannot win the presidency. That figure stands at roughly 20% among women regardless of age, party, education level or race.

Well sure, that's what I mean by grassroots. His base is growing organically, which helps him raise money easier. My guess is that the other candidates spend much more money per new supporter gain than Sanders does.

I find it more interesting that people, not you but the most of the media, don't seem to understand this. We JUST SAW THIS happen in 2016 with Trump and the GOP as well as with Obama in 08 for those who remember. I can give the Trump campaign team a ton of shit for a bunch of things and I think they're fucking scumbags but them citing social media impressions and his rally sizes repeatedly to show he had support compared to the rest of the GOP field is something that the rest of the pundit class should have acknowledged as meaningful.

It makes perfect sense and it's exactly why the framing to try and paint Bernie as a sexist has been completely idiotic. Of course he, like those woman, thinks a woman is capable of being President. But due to inherent sexism within the nation they have to face bullshit that a man wouldn't have to face and thus have a harder time. And the media was so desperate to use it against him they ran the story as an attempt to bury him, but the only thing this has shown is people don't buy their bullshit.

They're still counting the support for the other candidates. Biden is the obvious second choice for majority of them. People who have Buttigieg, Warren, Bloomberg as their top pick would go for Biden over Bernie.

I agree, but his campaign nor him called her that. The worst people in his campaign like Turner have done is called her out for flipping on M4A and voting to give Trump more money for military efforts, as well as shit like voting for the USMCA, which is basically NAFTA2.0.

I like Liz and I really hope that she ends up being his VP nominee because I think in order to pass his agenda he WILL need someone there who can work with the establishment Dems. Plus with his age, though she's slightly younger, women tend to live longer. Let Bernie lead the charge as the front runner flame thrower and let her work his agenda through behind the scenes and we can actually work on fixing things.
