That's called making a deal. If you want something from another country you have to offer them something in return. Or you can just give speeches and get nothing like Obama did, or go to war like Bush.

So are there any Dems who don't want to abolish the Electoral College? I think this is probably my most important issue- getting rid of the source of our success is not negotiable.

There's a notable overlap so I'm not sure why it's surprising. Hell, Trump's audio on this was leaked just recently and I think he said 20%? He's probably close to the mark there for 2016, it's still in double digits. Less than Yang and Tulsi but way ahead of others.

When you say "source of our success" what do you mean exactly? Source of specifically Trump's success in 2016? Or something else?

Cause it's entirely possible for a Democrat to lose the popular vote and win the election, and be a reverse of 2016.

Something exactly like this happened in Canada in our most recent election. The Conservative party got the most votes, and ended up in a pretty big loss in the parliament split (157 to 121). They won in massive 80-20 blowouts in some parts of the country (mostly Alberta), and lost by narrow margins in the rest of the country.

(Of course, a bunch of them got on social media bitching about how Canada should switch to a popular vote system, which is funny cause most of them also followed the 2016 US election and were against the popular vote at that time).

Anyway, I'm in favour of the popular vote, not because I expect it to benefit one party or the other (it's a fairly neutral) but because I don't live in a battleground state and feel pretty ignored over here. It would be cool to have politicians campaigning near me, maybe a rally every once in a while, or something.

Just saw the Tucker section on Bernie.
He mostly laughed at the democrats for pushing people like Bloomberg, talked a lot about how they're against Rogan, including how they're doing so only after his support of Bernie - did include how every one of them wants in on Rogan's show - and he basically treated Bernie as "guy I don't like or agree with but have respect for."

He also clearly has no respect for Biden based on that last quip and negative opinions of Bloomberg.

Yeah, that's mostly true of presidential candidate democrats; they all want to go on Joe Rogan, there's even a clip of Rogan explaining why he doesn't have them on (he wants people he can hang out with as friends, and only feels that way about Bernie and Tulsi apparently).

And credit where credit is due, there wasn't much criticism of Bernie when he went on Joe Rogan.

But there was criticism from activists on the left about Bernie using Rogan's endorsement in a campaign ad. It was pretty genuine grass roots criticism, including activists I've met in person. I assume other candidates opportunistically jumped in on the controversy. But this wasn't some manufactured thing; genuine activists in the LGBT and African American communities were like "maybe you don't want to use that guy in your ads".

Apparently Joe Rogan has been swept up in the controversy too--is now going back and deleting old tweets he made asking where Obama's birth certificate was and junk like that.

Isn't Pod Save America notably left leaning? They would probably ask him tough questions about his record where he's done a lot of right-leaning things. Same reason why Biden has never agreed to be interviewed by TYT, but both Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have.

Rogan, by contrast, tends to just get high and let his guest speak. It makes him able to interview guests as disparate as Alex Jones and Bernie Sanders, cause he doesn't really challenge his guests or try to ask them hard questions.

I mean what has made America great over 200+ years and the UK great for hundreds more years. The principle that all elections must be local and tied to land, that the national popular vote should count for nothing.

This principle works precisely because it gives no advantage to winning some areas 80-20, and forces politics to focus on the places with a healthy division in public discourse. And I think the UK conservatives made a huge mistake in abandoning this principle and holding 3 national referenda in 5 years - which I think they have learned not to do again after seeing the results!

Canada is a bit different, with the NDP it is quite hard for the Liberals to run up the score relative to the Conservatives (at least until another right wing party takes hold) as there aren't really any areas where at least one of the Conservatives or NDP is viable against the Liberals.

Currently, in the United States the Republicans are struggling in the big states. The only state with 10+ EC that they won by more than 20 points was Tennessee (11 EC). Democrats on the other hand, had California (55), New York (29), Massachusetts (11) and Maryland (10). Unless there's a massive change of voter intention, Democrats will continue to have a relatively inefficient vote spread. On the flip side it would be much easier for them to secure a landslide victory, especially as Texas continues to shift Democrat.
