Sorry, I'm using the derogatory version of 'incel'. But it seems every time a woman is into him (Rinoa, Quistis etc) he seems to hate it.

she just doesnt have any character to her. she feels like an after thought but i like her design so when balthier isnt my party leader penelo is.

Everyone in 13 sucks. The game sucks. Modern Square sucks. It was all my fault, I tried to get into the series and was welcomed with 13 being the absolute fucking worst game in the series by a landslide and is STILL widely mocked and reviled to this day.

And of course the FF games people generally agree are good (5, 6, 9, 12, Tactics) are ones I HAVEN'T played.

So yes, answer to the thread is "everyone from 13". Worst anything in FF, the answer will always be "everything from 13" and that I'm a total fucking moron whose bad luck ruined an entire franchise.

You need to like...get out more. People can have different opinions. Even I hated FF13. I love FF8, and yet majority of people hate that game. But all that matters to me was that I enjoyed that game.

He's trying to relate to Rikku after initially mistrusting her. It goes down badly, of course. But it's a real representation of a reformed racist and I do believe it's a spectacular plot point.

Hes describing 90% of the people shes ever known and every friend shes ever had (outside the main party) dying as if its some beautiful grandiose spectacle. No shit it goes down badly.

Even if these were just hundreds of randoms completely unrelated to anyone from the party (hell, even if they were hundreds of enemies), this line would still paint him as a psychopath.

Yeah, Amarant is weird and doesn't really have any endgame. His whole shtick is "I want to figure out how Zidane's mind works" and it never really comes to a satisfying conclusion.

Ill agree that his character isnt all about that scene and I dont dislike his character aside from that scene, but that doesnt make it any less damning. I honestly think that dialogue should have been edited out or at least altered to sound just a little bit less awful, but it wasnt and here we are.

but that's exactly it. Vaan is technically the main character of 12. While it should have been Ashe, Vaan was the first main character the player was introduced to, and it plays, or at least was supposed to play as a revenge journey.

It almost feels like if 12 and 13 had the main roles reversed(ashe instead of vaan, and snow instead of lightning) the games would have been fine story-wise.

but then it means you are hating Vaan not because Vaan himself is bad.
like the other guy said, Van and Penelo are just basic. they're not good enough to love, but they also not bad enough to hate.

I actually really liked Rinoa and Angelo too. They were cool additions to the series.

.... he's a bad character through and through. Anything he can do in-game as a character other characters can do better. His entire existence was supposedly a street rat, yet that only lasted less than 10 minutes. Not to mention that the entire reason he hated the empire was because of his brothers death, yet its only mentioned twice in the story. As soon as Basch joins the party that is the last you hear about revenge. He's just a cardboard box. Sure it's helpful to move things around, but put any form of real weight into it and it falls apart before it can even hold the contents its supposedly carrying. In other words, he is supposed to have this incredible story of revenge and hatred of the empire, but the moment they put any effort into exploring that storyline the box becomes wet, and falls apart to be abandoned for better characters in Basch and Balthier. Even Fran got more character development than Vaan.

Yeah, Vaan was definitely a passenger.

But I think the reasoning was probably based on Tidus. Playing as Vaan, or at least being forced to play as him in cities and towns was used to introduce the world to the player.

Like everytime you entered a new area in FFX, Tidus would get a rundown from Lulu, Auron or Yuna on the history of the place. I think that was the plan for Vaan but they doubled it up to include Penelo and it kind of fell apart and neither added any kind of perspective to anything.

The problem with Vaan is that Basch was supposed to be the main character far into development. He was replaced by Vaan because Square considered that the players wouldn't be able to relate to a rugged, old guy so they created Vaan and gave him a plotline that was inconsequential to the plot that was already in development.

I have nothing against him. He's just irrelevant due to external executive decisions, which I find kinda sad.

At one point I agreed on both counts, and I still agree about Penelo. But on my last playthrough of XII it really sunk in for me that Vaan is genuinely bad. His presence and dialogue are both forced and irritating, to the point where the equally-forced acknowledgement of his overstayed presence by real main characters Balthier and Ashe almost feels like a meta-commentary at times ('oh yeah, by the way...I guess you should have my ship if something happens to me, seeing as how you're the eager apprentice by default.'). But I could look past all of this if Vaan sold himself with even an ounce of personality. He has all of the bad qualities of Tidus, but none of his endearing enthusiasm or personal arc payoff.

EDIT the most hilarious thing about Vaan's character for me is that the only time he shows a hint of personality is when he appears in FF Tactics A2, and even then he's merely hamming it up as a Diet Coke version of Balthier.

@The_Korey dagger can also be made to always do 9999 damage
if you collect 99 of the gems needed to learn a summon that summon will recieve a massive power boost and will make most of them always hit 9999 damage and this is much easier to do than it is to kill a bunch of dragons or eat a bunch of frogs that are needed to get quina and freya to always deal 9999 damage

also with everyone equipped with auto regen and summons set to their full animations you never need a dedicated healer as regen continues to work as the summon animation is being played and as they are long animations in 9 you will usually end up fully healed by the time they are finished with auto regen

even the final boss only has like 65000 hp so 4 characters all capable of 9999 damage guaranteed will make the game a joke

It doesn't really matter that Quina has no story relevance. S/he's the comic relief and they're easily the best playable character of that trope in the history of the franchise.

Also Quina 1-shots Grand Dragons with Level 5 Death, which not only works towards making Freya powerful, but is a massive exp reward for the team.

yes there is a place where you can get them in bulk easy i just dont remember if you have to buy them or synthesis them but either way they are incredibly easy to get

you can farm ores by spamming Eiko's ability, Jewel. then synth those ores into gems in towns or black mage village.
