Yeah, same. The start of adulthood is when you're paying your own bills, not relying on your parents or others. That varies wildly.

This isn't even something it's possible to disagree with. Your brain isn't finished developing until 25-28.

I agree. Moving the legal age to buy tobacco products up to 21 is one of the best moves this country has made in a long time.

Yes it is because adulthood isnt defined by all of the brain finishing development (which a lot of evidence points that it never stops developing like many physical aspects of the body).

The only 100% objective definition of adulthood is the start of puberty, as thats when you become sexually mature and capable of reproduction; thats actually the biological, original definition to it. But its entirely stupid to consider someone an adult just because theyve started puberty.

Likewise, its stupid to consider someone a true adult as soon as they turn 18, because not only do you not change the instant you hit any age, but 18 year olds are still far from mentally mature. Neurological development is a far more important factor, and during the mid 20s to early 30s, the rational parts of your brain become more or less fully developed. So 25-30 is an ideal range for adulthood, fam!

There is no start to true adulthood. 50 year olds acting like fucking babies is all too common to reinforce your theory TC. I'm 30 and have met, trained, and worked with people in their early 20s who have proven to be quite mature.

Im not entirely defining this based on how someone merely acts, but by neurological development. A 50 year old who acts immature is still an adult; just one who acts immature. Their brain is still mature, though. A 20 year old who acts mature is still an adolescent; just one who acts mature. Their brain is still immature, though.

Brain development is far more variable across individuals than you think.

Would you like to see what this type of data actually looks like?

There's an overall trend like you describe, but the trend doesn't represent individual data points well.

Distributions of cortical thickness even in late developing areas (e.g. frontal and parietal cortices) show pretty significant overlap between even the youngest age groups and the "adult" age groups.

This but I'm 30. You just generally (should) have your shit together. You have a couple of years working, relationships and just have a bit better decisiveness when making decisions. It's nice honestly.
