No way. I did that, and I wish I didn't. They're different enough it will throw you off. Especially if you like metal, a lot of the beginner stuff people try to teach you are dumbass country songs you can't stand. Lol.

There is a lot of free stuff out there. My two favorites were https://www.justinguitar.com/ and https://www.andyguitar.co.uk/. They both have a lot of free youtube videos. Marty music comes in third.

If you like metal, I'd recommend https://guitarlessons365.com/. I don't use his site, I just watch his youtube videos, and he's pretty good.

And there is a definite lot of free content on youtube, but those will get you started. And it depends on what music you like, or want to play. After you've got the basics, think of a song you like, and just search for a tutorial. You might not be able to play the whole thing, but come back later, and you'll get it eventually.

1. learn what the following things are: neck, body, frets, pickups, headstock, nut, tuner, bridge
2. learn what notes the 6 strings are tuned to (E, A, D, G, B, E)
3. learn the 12 notes in music. Look up what a half step is and a whole step. Know where the half steps are in the twelve notes (B to C and E to F)
4. start memorizing the notes on the neck. this is a bitch so dont expect to get it down in a weekend, however it is easier than it looks because there are patterns all over you will discover, the standard tuning of a guitar is deliberate
5. look up what a chord is (three or more notes combined)
6. look up what a major scale is. learn a shape for it so you can play a major scale anywhere on the neck. learn what a 3rd is, 5th, 7th, octave, etc. now look up a minor scale. find out what makes a minor scale different than the major scale (flat third)
7. now look up what a major pentatonic and minor pentatonic scale is, learn to play these shapes as well, should be easy b/c it's based on the major and minor scales you already learned
8. now look up the chords for the song Smells Like Teen Spirit (https://bit.ly/2Ou3kn4). play the intro, it is just 4 power chords. if you did the above steps you should be able to figure out how the notes and chords are related, where kurt cobain got the idea for the riff (theory wise), and what key it is in
9. just keep doing shit like this, look up how to play songs (youtube, tabs, w/e), try and dissect them so you have at least some understanding of theory behind it, as you physically learn how to play them
10. if you want to be a big baller, look up the CAGED system
