The ones you played when you were younger? Like, I noticed I was pretty scared to play anything remotely scary as a kid. But I'm fine with them now... For the most part. I also noticed I like getting out of my comfort zone and playing games I usually wouldn't more, as well... That's probably thanks to my mom for buying me random games for Christmas and Birthdays a few different times

What about you, PotD?

Oh, yeah. I actually do, as well. I remember playing on one of the first computers we had in our house... And I also have it on my current laptop. Haha.

Sims will always be on my currently playing list. That and Nancy Drew mystery games, even though their quality has taken a turn.

If anything, I don't play as many multiplayer games anymore. My house hosted so many local multiplayer get-togethers between cousins and friends. Now I mostly seek out single-player games to play, which is whatever to me. I dropped off online multiplayer when I was still active in CoD.

Ever since I played Final Fantasy X(my first Final Fantasy) back in my teens I've been drawn more and more to RPG games. My biggest issue with them when growing up was the lack of voice acting. It doesn't bother me so much now but thankfully most RPG games are actually voiced these days so maybe I didn't change much at all.

Outside of the obvious technical differences, not much. Still love the various Nintendo games, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc.

I think the biggest difference is that I play primarily single player games now (or at least play in single player mode), where in the past I'd play a lot of fighting games, beat 'em ups, Mario Kart, and Tetris Attack with my siblings.

Yep. That's definitely the opposite. I think I like scary ones more because I didn't play a lot as a kid because I was too scared unless someone else was there. I am glad I've opened up to more games, though. Because I've had fun with some of the stuff I know I wouldn't have touched if I was younger.

Yeah. Sims is a classic that I don't think I'll ever truly get tired with, tbh. I may take a break here and there. But I always seem to return at one point or another.

Also, how are the Nancy Drew games? I like mystery stuff...

As for multiplayer, I use to do those at my cousin's house. We use to go there all the time. I didn't see them as much when I got into high school, though. I still go to some gaming parties when people have them. But not as much, these days. I do play online when I have online games, though... Even if I'm not that good...

Well I'm biased by nostalgia, but they're fun! I met one of my best friends through playing them in grade school. Some are faster than others, some have lame plots, but others have legit challenging puzzles and are fun to play through. I believe they've all on Steam now and if you want any specific recommendations to try out, let me know!

Now vs years ago, one of the big changes is the fact that I don't really play RPGs (except Pokemon) because adulting eats up too much time and the time commitment for your average RPG just to learn the system can be outrageous. In general, I don't tend to play lengthy, engrossing games so much as I opt for something I can play in short sittings.

I understad that. Until very recently, most of my time was consumed by work. I have freed up some more time, though. So, that helps...

I think I do play more FPS than I did as a kid, tbh... But as a kid, I was a terrible shot. I think that's why I avoided them for a while. But then I learned that a lot of people weren't the best at them, as well...

Lemme see. I've expanded of course thanks to more spending money, better tech, plenty of free time, new genres. Almost no local MP. Used to play a lot with folks in the neighboorhood. Bomberman, Point Blank, lots of N64. Now it's just me. I still play online, not so much hours of UT but a few rounds of this or that depending on what's playing.

Used to be big on RPG's. Now because of the backlog I don't like to devote 100's of hours to a single game. Might play longer games once in a while. I still generally avoid sports, fighting, MMO's, strategy, sims. Anything else is good. Guess that means I haven't changed all that much.

I guess I would say not scary games but creepy vibes in older games (and new ones) don't creep me out as much. I remember in KH1 being creeped out by that backroom cave in Traverse Town for absolutely no reason. nowadays stuff like that don't creep me out but I still fear regular horror games.

As for the games themselves, I notice things are more complex and there's a bit more to keep track of. You can easily see this among games in the same series or inspired by the same thing.

Yeah. With a backlog, it usually doesn't help to play the longer games too much. Playing the shorter ones will help shrink the backlog. And a long game every once in a while is ok...

I don't have the patience to play through games on their hardest settings any more. Typically, I don't bump a game down to "easy mode", but very rarely increase a game's difficulty beyond whatever the default is.

Still love games like Dark Souls and the like. Games that are challenging by default. But games like Devil May Cry or Wolfenstein or God of War that have these extra levels of difficulty... I play those on "normal", or whatever the default is.

My lack of patience extends to stealth games, too. Still enjoy stealth games, but I have to be in a particular mood to play them and deal with the slow, methodical play that comes with them.

A lot of this stems from having less time to play games these days. Don't want to use what little time I do have fighting and failing the same boss twenty times in a row, or trying to sneak through a tough portion of the game only to be caught a dozen times and sent back to a checkpoint.

I think I actually like stealth games more these days. Even with less time. I normally play games in their default setting with a few exceptions. Things that have replay value (different endings or different paths) get played on harder settings after beating them once. Or games that have farming or something like it. Or with different content, like Bayonetta...

I stick to normal difficulty too. That's what a game is typically adjusted for and making it tougher often just makes enemies grindier. Someone mentioned having to replay checkpoints dozens of times and that's totally annoying.

Platformers and puzzles are my faves. Indie games have added so much that big devs would be afraid to try. And yeah VR is very cool.

I dont play single player games as much, especially ones that you have to pay attention to.

Most of the games I play these days are multiplayer games that allow you to do two things at once.

I definitely miss the single player campaigns though, just cant seem to force myself to dedicate my full attention to. Its like I always need to be doing two things at once.

I mostly played Nintendo games and platformers as a kid. Mario, Kirby, DK, Sonic, Crash, etc. Now I play a lot of RPGs and action-adventure games with the occasional shooter, but I still love platformers too.

When I was a kid I played a lot of platformers because there wasn't a ton of choice in the Atari 2600/ColecoVision era, but I generally hate them now. Whereas I've gravitated to games with stronger story and characters, which basically didn't exist in a world where the "main character" was a 4-pixel dot on a map.

I feel like almost all of my changes are entirely predicated on the availability of games, though. If you could time travel back to 1984 and give 7-year old me a PS4 and most of the Telltale Games I think he'd have loved the crap out of them.

I'm more grind crazy when it comes to RPGs nowadays compared to when I was younger. When I first played Final Fantasy on the NES, I kinda leveled naturally from wandering around aimlessly until I figured out where to go next. Now I'm a bit more capable of figuring that part out but purposely grind to unlock more stuff with my characters.

I kinda wish I had atari at the time, I was a PC gamer at birth - playing text games on DOSShell before I finally got an NES in I think '87 (or whatever the year before Mario 2 was)
