yes, the internet does represent the real world as well. a demographic of disingenuous frauds on the net doesn't change that fact for the general population who aren't just on some weirdo shit, lol. most of us are connected with friends, family, co-workers and more on the net.

you're not one of those extremely polarizing "either or" types who oversimplifies/ overcomplicates based on how it benefits you at the time, are you? I'm getting that vibe but I don't know if it's on purpose.

now if you feel that you misspoke, which is perfectly fine and human, you can just say it. but they literally represent the real world.

it should go without saying that people aren't a monolith, but these stations reflect real world perceptions/sentiments. to say the opposite is wrong.

I asked you for a station of that same tier because it would be silly to pretend a blog, podcast or some underground shit reaches the same amount of people.

bro, just stop

"real world" in this context is not referring to whether something legitimately, technically, literally refers to a sentiment that, no matter how small, really, actually exists

it's referring to sentiments shared en masse by common people

all of these news channels are businesses and obviously have agendas for furthering their said business, which will of course affect which stories get reported, how they're reported, and what their anchors say

People spout crazy things all the time, and news stations love to appeal to people who love conspiracy theories. Obama was a Muslim, terrorist and immigrant according to the church of Fox, for example, haha.

This is where we are in society. The PoTUS is a Twitter troll, CNN exaggerates stories about floods, Fox exaggerates about a caravan, Alex Jones still has fans, people argue with bots in comment sections, people praise politicians for petty things like ripping up documents and not shaking hands, and people brag about cutting off loved ones and long time friends over who they voted for.

I'd say that craziness fits, haha.

Sure, I think we just meant different things by "represents the real world." The way in which darkprince was using it suggests MSNBC/CNN represent the real world to an extent the Internet doesn't, which I think is wrong. If I misspoke in expressing my disagreement, okay, but the crux of my response is really that there's no reason to believe these networks ought to be privileged over the Internet with respect to where the general public stands on things. Their sentiments too often reflect those of the elite and those of the professional class. Do elites live in the real world? Are they part of the real world? Of course. But that is the sense in which I meant they do not represent the "real world." They represent their target demographic, which is not where most people actually are.

A blog or podcast may not have the same influence or ability to change public opinion as a mainstream channel, but it can just as well reflect it, and many times has reflected it more than the major networks. What makes you think that the larger the network, the better it must reflect public opinion? Influences public opinion, sure. Reflects it, not necessarily more than the smaller outlets.

I agree that there are much better outlets for news than mainstream media, and I'd never suggest the opposite, lol. but I probably misunderstood your intent earlier.

CNN isn't the same quality of news as something like the Democracy Now podcast when it comes to politics for example, but Fox/CNN/MSNBC have an entirely different goal in mind, so I don't really see it as fair to compare. pandering to specific demographics who have been historically prone to certain beliefs and mannerisms is the game for mainstream media. not that much for NPR though, lol.

Tucker Carlson represents the people living vicariously through him, even if he himself just a character lol. but he mastered the real rhetoric of a culture that has existed since before his birth, and he's their voice.

but nah, I don't put much value in mainstream media outside of staying up on their plans and thought processes. gotta understand the people you're dealing with, you know?
