Korean is a language that always sounds either angry or upset. When my wife is talking with her mom, theres almost zero difference between a normal conversation and an argument.

I feel like it's more of a generational thing. Like 40 and up sound perpetually angry. 20-30's sound indifferent to everything. And anyone younger just sounds whiney.

For everyday life that is. Employee-Korean speakers, especially when they in unison say "Goodbye" when you leave a store, is terrifying.

I like how Mandarin sounds.
the few times I heard Thai it sounded like every other word was Tai. Maybe thats why English speakers call it Thailand.

I had to get used to it. I have been watching Korean dramas for the last year and a half and I like the language a lot. I've heard several dialects and my favorite part is when older generation talks and they sound like they're about to spit something from their mouth.

No way, that would be Mandarin/Cantonese. One time on the way home the bus driver stopped the bus and came in the back because he thought people were fighting when it was just 2 old Chinese ladies talking to each other lol. And frequently the driver has to tell people to lower their voice because they're too loud. They always sound so angry :<

I suppose there's something to be said about English speaking too. There's a lady who is LOUD as fuck living in the building and I hear yer yelling all the time. I sit, I listen, I wait for key words and then I sit back. I can't tell if she's about to fight or if she's just having a good time.

I mean yeah some people are just loud in general. But this might actually more just be with their culture than their language, since they tend to be a bit...less considerate? But I mean like most people don't want to bother others and will try to keep their voices down in public.

I really don't want to say anything negative though because I've gotten modded for literally just stating a fact :<

I understand. I've watched dramas where I've heard things which would sound rude in our culture. Or downright mean, in fact. Heard a grown man talk about how ugly his daughter was and all I can think of is "shit dude" lol.

Still, I like the language since it sounds so unique to me. Then again, i've been obsessed with Korean shit lately that I can't really say I'm not here without bias.

I haven't watched Parasite yet but I want to. At some point, if you watch long enough, names become easier but enough time passes and I forget their names completely ><

That reminded me of graystillplays when he was playing a game called "Chinese Parents" lol. A part in the game literally says "Dad says they picked you up near a trashcan" lol

It's their way of "toughing" up people. They do it to subordinates too. And then they wonder why suicide rates and alcoholism is trending up year after year. >_>

This is what I see at work. Ill be working with a Korean guy and hell be nice and respectful toward me... and then hell turn to his Korean coworker and just start yelling and sound angry.

Meanwhile, because they tend to end their sentences with a long vowel, everything that comes out of a Koreans mouth in normal conversation sounds super whiny to me.

That's reminds me of what I read of a 19th century European commenting that the Japanese language is the "Italian of the East". Because of how both language seems to just flow smoothly out from a proficient speaker, I suppose.

Can't find anything on what those guys think of Korean or the different dialacts of China.

I noticed Koreans does this sucking air while teeth is closed before speaking. Anyone got any idea why? I watch a lot of Korean pro starcraft and almost all of them does this during after match interviews.

I mean, you normally suck air to prolong a yell right? Or when you ran out of breath. Is Korean language that taxing?

They're not doing it alot here but initial matches I skimmed through doesn't have after match interviews (maybe they're just exhausted hence the sucking?)

Just a pause in their speech, usually for emphasis I think. I always felt it was "ummm" but with more purpose.

maybe. And I dont know enough about the language to separate syllables from words. My college roommate was Thai and I heard something like that a lot when he called home.

I've had a lot of Vietnamese acquaintances and friends over the years and the only things that I've learned to pronounce correctly in 34 years are their names and pho.
