Nobody seems to care at all in retail if all theyre getting paid is minimum wage.

When I was the manager in Subway, I expected full 100% effort from all my employees and I held them accountable for stupid shit they did. That got me a lot of enemies and the owner of the store eventually fired me because none of the employees liked working under me.

I never cared about the feelings of the employees. I wanted the work done correctly and fast and I wanted everybodys best foot forward.

My guys agree to $13/hr (at the time) so I expect everyone to bust their ass for it

There is nothing wrong with being a boss with high expectations. It might piss me off working under them, but I can absolutely respect the rationale - the success of the business is, after all, what is at hand.

A manager needs to manage their work force to get the job done as efficiently and effectively as possible. You really think you're being efficient if you're demanding too much from them and firing them when they don't meet your standards? Most retail turnover should be from people who are quitting because they found a better job. The only thing that should meet a termination is a code of conduct violation.

To build on this, my supervisor liked being passive aggressive about job timelines without offering any help to get the job done. My manager would actually help if it got busy and never pressured you unless you argued with him. My manager was awesome, and my supervisor can go kick rocks.

I will say one thing.

I could easily find a higher paying job than the one I'm at. The reason I've stayed on so long is because I get along good with management where I am and if they ask me to do something, I'll do it because I respect them enough to not let them down.

If my managers were dicks, I would have skated a while ago.

ITT: It's everyone elses fault but mine even though it's mine. And part of Subways problem is opening way to many stores. It's amazing that you haven't learnt a damn thing about not being a dick to your employees from this but then at this point I feel this is a troll topic.
