I think BOTW is already on the right step with multiple weapon types and elemental types.
Still the movesets isnt that much for each weapons. No. Sometimes simplicity makes things more fun. If you want a more complex game, then play those games. Not every game needs to be so complex imo.

Imo the sweet spot for BotW would be one notch up. It happens often enough that it gets repetitive. Like one or two more interesting options would be enough for me to mix it up once in a while.

Really skilled players can already make the game's combat look like DMC, so Link having a couple extra moves per weapon type would be perfect. No, its minimal complexity is why it's worked and has been so accessible for so long. Simplicity is not a bad thing.
