I always find these interesting.

My second main account was SpaceBar.

I was obsessed with the show LOST when it came out and on the show a character called Sawyer gave everyone nicknames.

I was a forum user on the website and they had a minigame where you answered some questions and were given a nickname.

I got SpaceBar because I said I was tall and into computers. Somebody once mistook my name for SPACEBEAR so when SpaceBar was banned, it seemed a natural progression. Had to add a damn underscore because apparently it was already taken.

Lost my "???" username on some-odd message board for "technical reasons" or something, and was playing a lot of FFT at the time.

Well I was trying to think of something clever, and as so often happens the end result was this stupid shit.

For fantasy/MMO games since Runescape I used the Ultima<x> naming convention (UltimaVyse, UltimaSquall, etc.).

When I started playing The Secret World they have you create a full name with an alias, so I wanted something a little more "real" sounding. Decided on using Hexen (witch) + a word like they do in German. Think my first one was Hexenseele (like witch's soul), but I grew to like this more.

Sky from SkyBlazer was also an influence even though I didn't actually play that game until a decade after this account was created. I'd simply read about it in an old issue of Nintendo Power.

Then I thought it sounded like a cool name for KOTOR so I kept using it.

@SardonicSoul was my hero, he was just so carefree, clever, and cool, so I created a username that emulated his hoping I would eventually become a more interesting person than my original username implied.

Reading a new comic that came out called Witchblade.

There was this character named Ian Nottingham. I stole the name for a forum.

Shortened it to Notti.

I've used some variation of the name online ever since.

Back when I used to play MapleStory, my character was called Sauceror in reference to Kingdom of Loathing and my nickname everywhere just became sauce. However this one guy @SkimGuy would always call me sauceje xd so I just went with that

It was my Everquest name and has been my online handle ever since.

Back in the days of OG Red/Blue my favorite Pokmon was Porygon. My first name is William. When I started going online in the early 2000s it was the best I could come up with for a username.

I've considered changing it a couple times but I'm really hesitant to use my one free change. I mean I still use it on more sites than ones where I use other names anyway.

I was drinking with a buddy of mine at a mall as we were killing time before a movie. He wanted to have a cigarette so we looked for the nearest exit. It happened to be at a Dick's (lol dick) Sporting Goods so we headed out. He had his smoke. I just chilled. We went back in and there was still a bunch of time before the movie so we just looked around the store and they had crossbows and shit like that and airsoft guns so we were both interested in the weapons section and looking more into it, we saw that they had machetes for sale for like $20. I had paid more than that for pocket knives in the past so $20 for a MACHETE was like "holy fuck that's a good deal O_O" and my buddy agreed. He was all like "I want one" and I was like "me too and I'm buying one if you are" so we both agreed and we each bought one. We put them in his car before the movie because bringing them into the theater while also being drunk would have been a bad idea. I made the alt ImTheMacheteGuy soon after because I wanted to be known as someone who randomly bought a machete for no reason other than "It's only $20 so why not?" and it stuck. This was before the Machete movie franchise was a thing, and this account was meant to be the alt of an alt, but I later closed my first account on this site and upon doing so, selected this account to be my new main over my older alt FigureOfSpeech, which to this day is my primary alt but has less than half the karma of this account in spite of being older by several years.

Then I took that was my wrestling name in that old fantasy league in Pro Wrestling Illustrated along with some friends of mine who all took weather names as well

Tomoe_Mami - Best girl in Madoka

AIDSbeam - made due to a joke on the NFL board years ago regarding the user then known as cancerbeam

Current name QueenCarly? Stanning Carly Rae Jepsen is a lifestyle and must be embraced wholly (was made after I became uncomfortable using AIDSbeam any longer)
