Characterwise Sonic's typically portrayed as a confident independent bachelor.
He wouldn't have to be gay for that to be the case... If someone like that is already feeling fulfilled and happy, dating relationships are a low priority because they feel less necessary. People already enjoying life have the least amount of incentive to settle down. The article just reads like the usual trash a media group has to resort to because they're fresh out of ideas. One of their biggest points is "He's Never Been That Interested In Amy".
