He's not wrong. Downturns in the economy are the best times to buy in because you can buy more for your dollar, which pays off when the economy bounces back.

Like Eric Trump.

Or, it could be average Americans with a few grand. It's really not mysterious, exclusive, or hard to invest in the stock market. The way some people talk about it on here sometimes leads me to believe they know absolutely nothing about it.

How is investing in the market when people are selling exploiting a tragedy? What are you even talking about?

You guys have got to be joking. Yes, a whole lot of people have money to invest in the stock market. Most opt to have other people manage their investments for them (mutual funds, 401k, etc.. which is the stock market), but you can certainly sign up for an Etrade, Scottrade, TDAmeritrade, Acorn account and do it yourself

6 in 10 Americans dont have $500 in savings. When you add up the total of all saving and divide by everyone you get these bullshit numbers.

Its like saying a homeless guy and a guy with $1,000,000 average $500,000 in savings.

Actually nevermind, I read more in the link. Average couple without kids under 34 is like 4k. Average typically means they're including everyone including broke ass bitches and multi millionaires so what's the median?

My first article mentions both the average and median balance of 401ks by age. For people 30-39, the Median 401(k) balance is $16,500

The median bank account balance for U.S. households is $4,500, and the average bank account balance is $40,200.

That's good to know. And if the median bank account balance is $4,500, the median 401ks and savings for certain ages is into the thousands. And I have people on here trying to tell me most Americans don't have access to $500 and that the stock market is some crazy thing nobody except rich people can do.

That's a good question you've raised. It could be that he's not taking his own advice, or it could also be that he has alternative investments and has money wrapped up in a slew of other money making alternatives (which is totally a thing for millionaires/billionaires).

And I'll edit to expand a bit on "alternative investments" so you don't think I'm just making things up: "An alternative investment or alternative investment fund is an investment or fund that invests in asset classes other than stocks, bonds, and cash."

A lot of these investments involve your money being locked away for years. It could be invested in real estate ventures, buying up people's credit card/mortage debt, bonds, you name it.
