I'm not sure where all this Xenoblade talk is coming from. It tanked in the last contest, what possible reason does it have to not suck this year?

I'm not pointing fingers because I myself have also done it but for some reason this board always picks one or two entries in a contest (game/series or character) and puts way too much hype towards it. The majority of the board believes in it then when it fails miserably everyone is surprised.

Edit - its obviously different now with XBII being very popular and I think the original Xenoblade is coming to switch so we will see.

So basically what you're saying is Xenoblade is this GotD's Pokemon Gold/Silver? Or will it be Heartgold/Soul Silver?

Xenoblade had a game on the Wii and two games on the WiiU, and it has fewer characters in Smash than Metroid. There's no way that it's a bigger name than that, despite Metroid not having a new game that people like to acknowledge existing since 2008.

Near the bottom of the page there should be an option call "Change Colors". Try selecting a different colour scheme.

Scroll down to the bottom of (certain) GameFAQS pages where you'll find a footer that gives you the option to "Change Colors". Click it, and select your preffered color scheme. I assume the one you currently have on is Cotton Candy, which I just checked out and... Good grief, that's an awful scheme for a website!

I get it that moving the server to the cloud might be important, but it seems Allen really screwed up with the scheduling for this.

GameFAQs will be moving over to the Google Cloud Platform this time around. Way back in 2012, Allen moved GameFAQs to Amazon Web Services (another cloud provider) and the site remained there for about 2 years before getting moved back to one of their own in-house data centers.

For the most part, people hate Street Fighter V. It'll be lucky to even look respectable in its inevitable loss against New Leaf in the immediate wake of New Horizons.

It almost got doubled by a Zero Escape game that wasn't strong enough to make this bracket.

It lost to a Digimon game. I didn't even know they still made Digimon games, but they do and people like them more than SV5.

I'd take Street Fighter V over Zero Escape though.

First, I picked GTAV to win its division, despite that I originally had Persona 4 Golden. With a normal GameFAQs audience, P4G would beat it, but if the contest draws a larger audience, GTA picks it back up.

The bigger one is that Breath of the Wild is only on one platform, while The Witcher III is on several and has a Netflix series. If everyone is staying inside watching Netflix and playing whatever video games are available to them, it makes sense that The Witcher III may have an advantage over the game only on Switch currently. If it was just this site's usual demographic, Zelda wins, but I'm switching now.

I know this sounds absolutely fucking insane, but that's the world we live in now.

So this means the most important matches of the contest are Skyrim vs. Witcher 3, Dark Souls vs. The Last of Us, and GTA 5 vs. Persona 4?

Odd that Skyrim vs. Witcher 3 isn't getting more discussion. Though maybe it's too much of a toss up, so it's not very productive to discuss...?

What do people here think of those three matches. Skyrim vs. Witcher 3, Dark Souls vs. The Last of Us, and GTA 5 vs. Persona 4.

Well, with Skyrim/Witcher 3, if you're picking Witcher 3, you're either betting on Skyrim to have massively dropped, Witcher 3 to have massively risen, or some combination of the two.

The Last of Us was clearly better in 2015 and has a new game coming out in just a couple months. It's also one of the games in the bracket that people would widely respect as a Game of the Decade contender, so I don't think Dark Souls will have any sort of "respect" advantage there.

If it was regular Persona 4, I'd take it in a heartbeat against GTAV, but it's Persona 4 Golden, which is an upgraded Vita port with a ton of new content, but I doubt most Persona fans actually played the thing. So it's a question of whether Persona fans will roll with it anyway, but we've repeatedly seen that ports are much weaker than the original in GOTY polls, so does that carry over to contests? I have no idea!

One thing I would caution about with regards to using BOP to determine the most debatable matches is its low sample size. Specifically, nine users only posted their brackets after the latest update, and a few others changed some of their picks in the meantime. With just 23 brackets included in the latest update, those extra nine could substantially change the list of most debatable matches.

As it stands now, however, Dark Souls/Last of Us and Witcher 3/Skyrim definitely seem underdiscussed. My theory is that most people are largely convinced that one of those two games will win, hence the lack of discussion, but that those two camps are of near-equal sizes, hence the closeness.
