I honestly can't believe they fucked up this badly. I know movie adaptations go wildly off the mark all the time, but this is a new low. You couldn't make something this stupid even as a parody.

I actually really liked the original book because it felt so subversive. Having a cold and calculating evil genius as the protagonist was interesting, and made for a compelling plot where I could never truly be sure what would happen next. Changing it into a generic "young child stumbles into a magic world" plot is one of the most disappointing and baffling things I could ever imagine.

yea unless the trailer is WILDLY misleading since they have him say "I'm the next criminal mastermind", it's crazy how changed it is. And changed for absolutely the worse

I knew from the point they made Commander Root a woman that it was doomed. To take away such an important aspect of Holly's character was early proof they had no understanding (and/or regard for) the source material. And that's without even considering the years of development hell.

Honestly, though, this looks even worse than I thought it would. Oh well.

I do not know anything about this franchise, but looking at the thumbnail is enkigh to know this is bad.

I don't think "badass calculating 12 year old master criminal" was ever going to translate well to screen personally.

I mean this looks especially bad but it was already pretty damned if you ask me.

The books are really good! Like they're still aimed at younger readers obviously but they do a lot of really neat things! And pretty much everything that made the books stand out and be cool seems to be lost here.

Funny that it has the same title as that one old book series, but that's obviously just a weird coincidence. It's clear from the trailer that this is a completely unrelated project.

Isn't Black Widow out in May as well? If so, this film is presumably intended as some sort of tax write-off for Disney. An adaptation of a book series that's coming 10-15 years after the books were popular is an odd choice of source material for a film studio that won't even get out of bed for less than a $1 Billion box office gross nowadays. At least Artemis is still Irish and wasn't changed to an American, so small mercies. I'll cross my fingers that The Wish List from the same author turns out better if that ever gets a film adaptation.
