There was a bit of anxiety about Super Tuesday and all, but that wasn't the focus of the meeting and we wrapped up before any real results came in.

I don't know if I saw any drinks available actually, though there was a good deal of food. People could get water from the sink if they wanted, I guess.

Why do you hate America

Because America is a country in which people are dying because they can't afford insulin.

Aside from updates from the various working groups, the two main parts were a canvassing training (not just for Bernie, but for local candidates or whatever other campaigns) and a proposal for the chapter to launch a campaign towards municipalizing the energy grid. The latter got a bit too much into what I like to call "bylaws-ass shit" but was overall really cool and I think a worthwhile goal. I'll be voting for us to get on board.

I did, for the most part. A few people who I usually like chatting with weren't there this month, but I had some productive conversations.

This was not my first meeting, but I was surprised by how far along the energy democracy proposal has come and the ambition of it.

The working groups are subsets of the chapter that are focused on specific issues or campaigns. So the energy democracy campaign is a project of our ecosocialist working group. There's also a socialist feminist working group which is preparing for our annual abortion fundraiser, an electoral working group focused on the obvious, and so on.

Yeah, not comparable, try again. This is an easy change anyone can make; humans are in no way obligate omnivores.

its grossly hypocritical to say you care about suffering, equality and quality of life, the environment, and big corporate power when you (voluntarily and optionally) support an industry that tortures and kills 55 billion sentient beings each year, is one of the biggest contributors to climate change, and is made up of corporations with ridiculous lobbying power.

It's almost like American politics is so skewed to the right that it makes everything in the center seem far left.

I imagine there are some people who are just social democrats, but I'd say most of us would qualify as socialists elsewhere.

It depends on how you define involvement. There's one guy who's been a habitual green party candidate for various positions, but "involvement" for most of us takes the form of our role in various campaigns and efforts. The organization was part of a broader push that helped get a police accountability board passed last fall.

MeltyAlert posted...

They hadn't come in yet. But the attitude I've seen this morning is more "don't mourn, organize," than being upset.

I think a lot of our members would agree with you, and view Sanders as a compromise candidate who would only be part of a larger movement.

Or people can stop consuming it all together. But there are *more humane* (a laughable notion but there it is) local options. Supply and demand starts with demand.

You seem to care a lot being that youre so fucking assblasted about simple ethical hypocrisy being pointed out. Whining about vegans and refusing to engage really makes your stance look great

Dont talk about the urgency of climate change and how Republicans wont address it when you support the factory farm industry.
