Has anyone else watched this on Netflix? I don't think a show/documentary has ever frustrated me as much as this one has. On Part 1 Episode 8 and I can already tell how it is going to end. It's unreal.

It is essentially about a man who was framed for a sexual assault against a woman. He had an alibi and everything but the cops had it out for him, because the Sheriff and the man's wife got into an altercation at some point. So this guy gets locked up. 18 YEARS later gets out due to DNA evidence that was collected at the time, completely clearing his name.

He carries on with his life, is happy for a few years, tries to sue for his lost time. He is suing for millions of dollars and it looks like he is going to win... and then a woman is murdered and somehow her charred bones end up in his yard and he has to go through a murder trial to once again prove he is innocent. The evidence is clearly showing that the police set this all up. Hell, they found blood in the women's car that matches the man's but when they pull the evidence from the sexual assault case from years earlier, they find a vial of his blood that has clearly been tampered with. (The tape around the box the blood was kept in was cut and the vial had a syringe needle size hole in the cap)

The cops even go as far as to go after his mentally disabled nephew to try to get some sort of confession out of him. The confession tape is horrifying to watch cause this poor kid is just scared of the cops and trying to remember what the cops told him to say... Like, he knows he is supposed to say something about the women's head, but he cannot remember and just says "we cut her hair I think" and the cops just keep prodding him "what else? what else?" and the kid doesn't know. So the cops are like "Don't you remember she got shot in the head?" and the kid is like "I don't know" ...yet that counts as some sort of confession.

IDK I could rant about this shit all day, it is insane how this can happen to an innocent person.

It happened in Wisconsin.

This is the latest on the case, spoilers I guess?

On February 26, 2019, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals granted Avery's petition requesting that his case be remanded back to the trial court for an evidentiary hearing on his motion for a new trial.[48][49] Kathleen Zellner posted the news to her Twitter page several hours before, tweeting:
Avery Update: We Won!!!!!! Back to the circuit court. #TruthWins @llifeafterten @ZellnerLaw @TManitowoc @michellemalkin #MakingaMurderer.[50]
Based on the bone fragments found in the Manitowoc County Gravel Pit, Avery's post-conviction lawyer now found herself with a new theory and new evidence to be brought into Avery's upcoming case.[51] This all started in 2018 when Zellner, through Avery,[52] filed a motion to have "suspected human" bones that were being held by the Wisconsin Department of Justice be tested for DNA.[52] The bones to be tested came from three different burn piles within the Manitowoc County owned quarry; amongst them was a pelvic bone fragment.[53] New technology used to identify victims in the California wildfires would allow Zellner, if she had won that appeal, to test the bones to see if they matched the DNA of Teresa Halbach,[53] Avery's suspected victim. However, when the motion was filed, Zellner soon discovered that the State had returned the bones to Halbach's family.[51]
"By giving them [to the Halbach family] " Zellner stated to Rolling Stone, "they have just confirmed they believe those bones are human."[53]
Zellner then went on to file another motion, saying that the return of the bones to the Halbach family constituted an Arizona v. Youngblood violation, which meant that this potentially crucial evidence to help Avery's case was kept back from further testing by Zellner and her committee.[52]
"It's a very sneaky way to get evidence destroyed. It seems very deliberate that the thinking was, We need to get rid of those bones, but we can't just go in and cremate them ourselves."[53]
Zellner's testament to filing her second motion was backed up by a "never-before disclosed ledger sheet",[54] indicating that the bones were in fact returned to the Halbach family, but never disclosed to Avery's defense team. Zellner now has 14 days to file any "supplemental post conviction motions" before Avery's new court date is set.[52]

This. I read about it. Off the top of my head, guy got released from being falsely sentenced after something like 18 years. So he tried to sue the state. Then 2 years later, they fuck him again with a life sentence.

And the president can't/wont pardon him.

Yeah, it is just kind of scary to think about. This could happen to anyone, just piss off the wrong police officer. There's literally nothing he nor his family can do about it either. Hopefully the attention the show brought to the case will prove to be beneficial and he can one day get out, but at this point such a huge majority of his life, and his poor parents lives have just been taken away... ugh.

One thing I will say though, is he has got some very good lawyers. They actually seem to care about him, which seems rare but I guess I really don't know.

Shes one of the best lawyers ive seen on these shows. There have been several Netflix specials like this where shes represented someone falsely accused of murder and has won.

Keep in mind there is stuff the show leaves out that may not make it as cut and dry that he was framed.

This is a frustrating documentary but so captivating. Im glad they won the appeal finally. Is Dassey screwed though ?

Zellner is featured in Season 2. She was also featured on another documentary I recently watched about another kid who was falsely imprisoned and <s>in prison for ten years before being exonerated</s>. Zellner is a beast- would love to see more documentaries where she is doing her thing.

its disgusting how cops can lead people into a false confession and how judges/lawyers can bend truths and plant evidence, and when new evidence comes up there are often appeals that are ignored or rejected. Season 2 of Making a Murderer was frustrating for that reason.

Avery killed that woman. Whether or not the kid was as involved as suggested or not, Avery is guilty. He and his whole trash family are stupid as shit so it isnt a big surprise he would take his payout and still fuck up his life.

There is so much the show left out to create a narrative that point to Avery being a sadist. Zellner posted a list of 100 or so questions for anyone trying to suggest his guilt and someone posted answers for every single one a while back.

I have held off on watching season 2 because I have a feeling it will be more narrative framing in his favor
