The alternative option is Trump and fucking the progressive agenda for the next 30 to 40 years via the Supreme Court. Continued emboldening of sexism, racism, and literal fucking Nazis for another 4 years. The administration and far right crossed the line of openly corrupt and evil long ago.

So yeah, I'm going to think if you are willing to just give them unlimited power for another 4 years you lack empathy and are kind of an idiot.

And I feel I say this on repeat, the difference in actual policy of either presidency is going to be minimal. Even the two candidates struggle to come up with meaningful future differences on the debate stage.

Both call each other out on blips in past voting record but rarely talk about ongoing policy.

It is part of why they talk so much about Healthcare but, and again I've said this on repeat, what they can actually pass is limited or nonexistent due to congress. Both would likely end up having to pass basically the same bill because it'd got to pass through the same people.

The health care discussion is pretty much political theater. Now, don't get me wrong, I think actually having the discussion is good for the future, but all the candidates have vastly overstated the impact their presidency can make on the subject.

Specific policy aside from that just doesn't get talked about much because it's really not meaningfully different. The debates have hit a lot of i agree but such and such, which make for rather boring theater.

And lastly, I guarantee whichever of Biden and Sanders remains at the end, they WILL endorse the other. They are actually the two candidates that oddly have been the most cordial to each other on the debate stage(they actually do refer to the other as friends quite often on stage, I'm not sure if this has gone over people's heads).

I expect they'll attack harder during these next debates but make no mistake both know the worst thing we could let happen to this country is let Trump win.

It's frustrating, you're going to see setbacks, you're going to feel like you're wasting time, but inch-by-inch you make some ground and you keep pushing. I look at the party back in 2004 which was probably the first election I really followed to it now and I see a world of difference. Progress gets made but it's not always fast and it's not always as far as you like which is why you don't give up, it'll be a lifelong fight.

^

i get why people think these results are extremely disappointing but "THE PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT IS DEAD" is a ridiculous overreaction. it's weird that i'm apparently one of the few people in this topic who think the results have been quite positive. you just have to look at the bigger picture. i also started seriously following american politics back during the 2004 election and back then it was absolutely impossible for an open socialist in the US to become remotely popular. the fact that bernie got so many votes - with the mainstream media bashing him into the ground 24/7 - gives me hope for the country. and let's face it, biden was the favorite for the nomination for most of the campaign. bernie getting the nom was a high bar to reach.

the progressive movement is going nowhere but you just have to give it time. rome wasn't built in a day. in a number of years, there could very well be a president AOC.

I agree with the broader point you're making here about legislation, especially on healthcare, but saying their differences as leaders is "minimal" simply isn't true.

As Trump has shown us, the President has broad executive power that doesn't require Congress. A major difference between the two is that Bernie has shown he is much more willing to use executive action than Biden is. For example, he could use it to cancel student loan debt. This stuff would almost certainly go to court, but it's huge. Bernie also has different foreign policy stances he'll be able to exert influence on, though I don't think it'll make a hugely dramatic difference, it'll probably be a bigger deviation from the party line than anyone else would do.

Is this really a major issue?

I feel like states are taking care of this one themselves as soon as they recognize the tax dollars it brings in.

Also Biden seems to be leaning at the very least leaning towards decriminalization if not further.

Not sure on their powers to unilaterally enact anything on the subject without congressional approval either.

Yeah, definitely not cool on the dems that flipped on it after supporting it when they were the minority. But still good that it's passing, and now it's on the VA Voters to do the right thing there.

Like, I'd kind of like to see the GOP thoroughly gerrymandered out of existence everywhere as retribution for their ratfuckery and voter suprression, but that's not how the system should work, and good on people for trying to make it work the way it should.

And relatedly, fuck Missouri/Michigan/Utah Republicans for their efforts to undo what voters have done in those states. Total fucking scumbags there.

I've been thinking about it and can't decide if it would help Bernie to go after the Democratic Party hard, the way Trump socked it to the Republican Party. Call out Biden and Warren for who they are. And take back his commitment to back the winner of a plurality of the delegates - his offer was rejected by the others and therefore there was no deal.

Maybe suggest that he will not be endorsing Biden if he wins.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders brought his star power to the University of Michigan late Friday, urging supporters to turn out the vote for gubernatorial hopeful Gretchen Whitmer and other Democrats in what he called "the most most important mid-term election in the history of our country."
An enthusiastic crowd packed the 1,100-seat Rackham Auditorium to hear Whitmer and Sanders, who also spoke to a smaller overflow crowd on the fourth floor of the building before joining the larger rally.

Oh weird, so he supported one person in the Primary and then vigorously supported the winner in the General, but is being attacked for merely participating in the Primary Process?

Why does this sound so familiar?

That was a marked change from last years bipartisanship, when the Legislature approved an identical version of the proposed amendment, the first move in a two-vote process needed to place such measures on the ballot. At the time, Democrats were in the minority in the House, and the amendment passed with overwhelming support from both parties, 85 to 13. Republicans controlled both houses of the Legislature but were widely expected to lose power, which they did, in November."

Remember when I said almost all these cases are simply politics. That the Dems would be against getting rid of the electoral college if they felt it benefitted them and etc?
