It boils down to this. Bernie started strong as fuck, and it scared the party so bad they did the unprecedented act of having the guy who won Iowa drop out before Super Tuesday in order to rally around Joe.

Bernie was on an island, and none of his "friends" (Warren, Tulsi, Yang, Steyer) threw him any support when it would have mattered. If you read Yang's statements, he pretty clearly feels bad about not supporting Bernie, but I'm guessing Joe offered him a seat at a table that he didn't want to risk.

Who knows what's going on in Tulsi's head, she started as a huge Bernie supporter and then started firing off in all directions, choosing not to run for reelection, all just to back Biden in the end, a truly bizarre showing.

Then there's Warren, and you all know how I feel there, just a crushing betrayal.

He was, um, lying. All I see from Sanders supporters is "JOE BIDEN IS A LIAR HE NEVER TELLS THE TRUTH" but then this, which is most obvious lie the entire election cycle, they take as gospel.

Sanders has absolutely, 100% driven the democratic party to the left since 2016. He has been a major voice in the party, has attracted new and energized members to congress to replace further right democrats, and caused major policy shifts within the democratic platform (and democratic base). You shouldn't minimize his contribution to the party just because he's losing (again).

There is a reason Sanders caucuses with the dems and has been running with the democrats in presidential elections.

All of it? I don't buy into the conspiracy theories that he is some drooling moron who is in late stage dementia.

Like imagine if Biden had confused ebola with coronavirus three times in the debate. It was clearly a simple mistake by Sanders and meant nothing, but if Biden had done it the memes would've been all over the place. I'm not saying Biden is as sharp as he was 20 years ago, but all this "BIDEN IS ON HIS DEATHBED" nonsense is overblown.

I have been as down on Biden's chances as anyone here (one of the main reasons I voted Sanders is I still think he has the best chance in Wisconsin in the general). And up until like a week ago, I was at about zero percent enthusiasm to vote for him. But now with Trump screwing up the response as badly as he has, I will absolutely be an enthusiastic Biden supporter. Well, "enthusiastic". I'm not going to spend the whole time moaning about him. Just like, 25%. At best.

I believe it was twice, and it was in response to Joe actually talking about ebola. Also Bernie acknowledged it "he got Ebola in my head".

The Biden problems can not be easily explained like this, and before someone says "stutter", he was not like this before, he just wasn't.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/23/us/politics/biden-speech-fred-upton.html

I sadly can't read the article so I had to look it up elsewhere!

During Thursday's speech, Biden said that he spoke at an event that Upton happened to be at and he had praised him for "his fight against cancer" by supporting related legislation. The former vice president added that nothing get's done when lawmakers don't reach across the aisle.

I can't see the full speech yet, but I don't think he was actually endorsing him. And it is strange for me to see people going "yes Sanders get Rogan's support it is good to reach out to other people" then go "bad Biden for reaching out to other people". He says he wants to work with republicans, not hand over the reins of government to them. If you think Republicans actually like Biden, wait a couple of months until they start ramping up their general election campaign. They'll smear him just like they would Sanders (which is why honestly we should've just nominated Sanders, but hey that's another issue entirely).

If you think Biden and Trump are exactly the same on the environment, on healthcare, on women's issues, on supreme court justice picks, on who they would appoint on the federal court, on how they'd handle the coronavirus response, on almost every other issue, I don't know what to tell you.

Like if your argument is "he isn't as good as Sanders" well yeah duh I agree. I don't have that option any more though and I'd rather not set the progressive agenda back another 50 years.

Right now I am trying to convince two elderly family members of mine that coronavirus is a serious threat and they still aren't taking it seriously because of how Trump framed it initially. They know me and have known me all my life, I have a PhD in biology (well biological chemistry but almost all my work was done primarily in biology), work in microbiology, and am currently helping the hospital here on campus run tests, but my opinion means nothing to them it seems because "FAKE NEWS" has worked its way into their brain and they just quote back at me Trump's initial response to the media blowing it out of proportion. I know Trump's trying to do the right things now, but that initial response is precisely why we're at where we are now. They think the media is out to get Trump and things are overblown and it probably won't hit them for another week how bad things are and by then who knows it might be too late.

So I'm done entertaining "BIDEN IS ANOTHER TRUMP" arguments for now. I know that isn't what you're saying, but I see it so much online in the subreddits I go to and it is incredibly frustrating.

If Trump wins again, there isn't a magical progressive saves the day in 2024 narrative that pops up because of the things you mentioned. The progressive moment is basically done for at least a generation unless Biden wins in November.

The best thing for the Progressive movement would be Biden getting blown the fuck out but Dems winning downballot to keep the Supreme Court safe.

If Democrats win, they're going to feel vindicated that a "Moderate" is the way to go, setting themselves up for another Republican populist who isn't incompetent to take over.

Frankly, what an utter failure Obama was that he didn't get Merrick Garland on the court + RBG replaced before he peaced out. What a fucking disaster. Literally forcing us into a hostage situation.

The failure was on the voters (and media) in 2016, not Obama, give me a fucking break.
