Working security my job never stops even if the business were to take a break but Ill still gladly accept an extra $1000 - $4500 check for braving the virus everyday while everyone else gets to stay home and lounge around doing nothing for the same money.

In the past stimulus packages were in the form of tax breaks on your tax return that was actual money that could result in a tax return even if you didnt owe any money, while normally tax breaks would just tend to bring your taxes due to a flat $0 and not translate into actual cash back. It could be like that since tax day is coming up soon but since Im sure a lot of people filed already they seem to be discussing skipping all that and just proposing writing millions of checks and sending them out in the mail.

yes.

but they don't want to do that this time, because it would be too slow

mainly because the tax season is effectively over right now

He suggested there should be an income cut-off on the cash payments and that high-income households might not be eligible.

so unfair

I actually agree they should just send it to everyone across the board

some kind of universal income, at a basic level idk

Yep. Even if they shut down this site and send every construction worker home for the next month, I will still be expected to show up and keep an eye on the MDF room.

Im not really for M4A as I dont see how its feasible to switch from our system to that system. I definitely support UBI though and see not having it as a bigger problem than M4A. Basically give whatever poverty-level is to each person regardless of income. I realize Id probably end up with less money this way.

I'm saying, Medicare is not free. You have to pay a monthly premium. I'm 73. My primary income is Social Security retirement. I can't afford Medicare.

So anyone who thinks Medicare is the answer to affordable health care doesn't know what they are talking about.

An universal income would only do anything good if it's tax free and no inflation.

Also worth noting before I'm too nice to Trump, the guy just dumped a $1.5t into the stock market that literally burnt up and went away, and it wasn't exactly a "who could have known" moment.

Not as bad as the Iraq war, but still. Probably better than the Iraq war considering people didn't have to die.

I like the fact that he's just giving us the money now. Good.

The point of that income is to be a supplemental thing it's not meant to make it so everyone can stay home and do nothing while raking in a very big paycheck. From what I hear most view it as about $1000-1200 a month which is pretty substantial since it would be on top of anything else that person makes so even if that person worked full time at minimum wage that extra money is a huge pay bump.

It won't mean much to those making say $100-150k a year but it's not meant to, but even for those people they now have $12k-15k a year extra to do whatever they feel like with.

Inflation would fuck the people that need that supplemental income.

Trials have shown that people end up following their passions and going back to school instead of the stereotype of sitting around doing nothing with UBI

The government is probably more willing to bend to it over medicare for all because it's
A) A relatively cheap way to win voters
B) Doesn't conflict with their donors (doesn't stop the flow of money to any corporation)

I found it very interesting how CNN cozied up to Andrew Yang while basically throwing holy water at Bernie. Even Fox News didn't really throw any punches at Yang for his "free government handouts"

I remember. I also remember it not actually doing much to "stimulate" the economy and it being largely panned by experts.
(I also remember being in college and technically still a "dependent" of my parents and not getting any of the money myself despite working and paying taxes and living 2/3 of the year away from home...)
