I didn't get a ps4 and am thinking of getting a 5 to catch up on the games I missed. Not when it comes out--maybe a few years later when it gets cheaper.

Microsoft's stewardship of Xbox is embarrassing and I can't see myself getting an xbox ever.

People have bought underpowered Wiis and now Switches because they want games. Power is just not the selling factor for most gamers. Very rarely has the most powerful console won a generation. The PS1 was weaker and stronger in some ways, so that generation is weird. The PS2 was only stronger than the DC, but easily beat the more powerful XBox and GameCube. The PS3 was powerful but lost to the less powerful 360 and both were destroyed by the incredibly weak Wii in terms of sales. PS4 won easily, it's hard to keep track of what is stronger with all the upgrades, but the Switch is selling very well. The powerful PSP and Vita both lost to weaker Nintendo handhelds.

Power just isn't that big a deal in terms of sales.

Nintendo will presumably lose the online everything battle forever. It's unreal how and every single aspect of their online, from the store, to the multiplayer, to the "free games" are so much worse than what MS and Sony offer. The Virtual Console mess is probably the single most anti-consumer thing in gaming to this point.

Because it's throttled by USB. SSD's are a big upgrade when properly implemented like they will be for both consoles. Sony has put a big focus on it.

Neither console uses dated technology like the TC is stating. Apparently no modern SSD on the market is good enough to be used as expandable PS5 storage.

I'm talking about installing SSDs into a PS4, specifically saving you 2-3 loading seconds for most scenarios. I'm sure the OS for the PS5 will benefit the most from the integrated SSD, but considering most people are going to be probably connecting an external SSD to store most of their games anyway it seems like a waste to hype up as game-changing, especially if it's not 1TB.

It's a waste of an SSD to plug it into a console via USB. Always has been. The benefits are negligible compared to a PC with an SSD plugged into the motherboard and always have been. It's like saying a HD console isn't a big deal because it looks the same when plugged into your SD television.

You cannot play any PS5 or Xbox Series X games via USB (regardless if it's SSD or not) because it's not fast enough. It's a major difference for the Xbox Series X and that one is half of the PS5's speed.

There's so much coping going on about the SSD speed and it's like no one gives a shit about that really. Developers won't take advantage of it unless they are first party for the most part because it would mean extra work porting and the facts are it's a weaker machine than the new Xbox.

And it's still irrelevant. It's not designed for SSD drives. It's hobbled. I didn't even know they let you do it. SSD's only give a 2x speed increase on PS4 compared to HDD. The PS5 SSD will have a 100x speed increase compared to PS4 hard drives.

If you've used an SSD on PC you'd already know how much of an improvement it is. Buying an SSD for a PS4 or an Xbox One is a waste of money but it's a huge benefit for PC. Games load before you can even read the loading screen tips. Future games will be designed around that speed outside of loading times.

My MBP has always had flash storage so way ahead of you on that lol

I'm not gonna nerd out about the SSD speeds at the end of the day though when I still think it's not gonna compensate entirely for the weaker CPU, GPU, or RAM. Devs are gonna see the better specs on the Series X and take advantage of it. They did it with the PS4 compared to the Xbox One, I don't see why they wouldn't do it here.

Still so nice to know I can simply unplug my external 8TB HDD and plug it into my Series X to instantly have access to my entire BC library.

I don't really care about the technical aspects on a console. If it has interesting looking games with interesting stories and interesting characters, that's enough for me.
