What happened to people going crazy about Call of Duty, or Battlefield? DOOM Eternal seems to have gotten people VERY over-stimulated, and from what I hear, DOOM 2010 was excellent as well. Is DOOM the main first-person-shooter series on console and PC now?

Sadly, although I was looking forward to play DOOM Eternal, the Switch version has been delayed. Nintendo still getting screwed.

People I've heard from are very positive about the most recent CoD, and it was the best-selling game in the US in 2019

DOOM just has more flavor. CoD is boring and Halo has gone in the wrong direction.

DOOM is not going to replace the big multiplayer shooters you mentioned.

What happened to Battlefield, anyway? It was super-popular in the early to mid-2010s, but people don't seem to mention it so much these days.

FEAR was an excellent franchise. Really shame it's basically dead. FEAR 3 was very good, FEAR 1 was great, and FEAR Files was very good. I used to play through those games multiple times, due to the dark, brooding graphics, the really high difficulty, and the Slow-Mo which changed things a lot. Only game I wasn't keen on was FEAR 2.

Left 4 Dead was a lot of fun, but seems to be done.

Then, back in the day, we had the amazing Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Between those games, I'd guess I have about 1,000 hours. Crazy.

Battlefield 1 was great.
Battlefield V was flawed and underwhelming. It felt like an expansion for BF1, but with the mechanics made worse

DOOM is getting so much attention from the nostalgia factor, I doubt it'll overtake anything like CoD.

Wolfenstein has REALLY jumped the shark. The New Collosus was sorta fun, but not great, and Youngblood was pretty bad. Completely the wrong direction. Too much puzzling, wandering around, talking to characters. I want to shoot enemies. And the standard difficulty is too hard.

They started fucking things up with the microtransactions and goddamn battlepacks ie. loot boxes. BFV altogether was also a shallow mess compared to BF1 so they're still reeling from that huge ass fail.

Nah, it's just a new flavor of FPS that people are clamoring for. Call of Duty is still yearly and still sells millions.

Doom doesn't have yearly releases, they care about the IP.

To be fair, for a long time they kept the quality of Call of Duty high, despite yearly releases. Some of those games were excellent - look at MW3 and MW2.

I feel that's doing a massive discredit to Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal which are amazing games in their own right.

I miss Left 4 Dead. Really wish Valve would make a 3 and fix all of the problems the series has but they wont. They make too much money just coasting off of Steams success

Every Doom release is a big deal because they don't come out that often, but it's precisely because of that reason that Doom will never surpass titles like CoD that pump out a game every year. It's like asking if Mario Tennis is the big sports franchise now.

check out Vermintide 2. it's L4D horde/swarm multiplayer but in the Warhammer universe and a focus on melee combat.
