The lockdown was awful and I was only there three weeks. I absolutely don't blame him for trying to escape. The evacuation flight to the US cost $1000 as well. County-by-county stay-at-home isn't going to work because places like Tarrant are going to institute it too late and likely spread it to Johnson/Parker counties. Abbot's reasoning is that the majority of counties lack cases, but this is because cases are under reported and it won't be the case for long. The most populated areas are exploding in case numbers and this will spread throughout the state rapidly. Texas also has a very high rate of inunsured. Yes because that would allow us to more quickly flatten the curve, which is the primary way of combating the issue. Stay-at-home instituted statewide would lessen the cases and mass testing would allow us to better allocate resources to the appropriate counties whose hospitals are at risk of being overwhelmed. This is how NY is managing the situation. They have very high case numbers, but that's because they're testing so they know what kind of resources they need and where to allocate them to prevent hospital overload. Abbot really doesn't have to do much beyond act like a state leader. He's not doing that right now be deferring this bureaucratically to counties.
