In the end, the GOP has already played their hand in asking for unrelated demands. They will fight for their interests regardless of what the DNC proposes. If the bill had no unrelated bullshit, the GOP would fight for their own interests. In this way, they are playing their hand such that the GOP also has to fight these DNC demands in addition to trying to put their own stuff in.

Ideally this will end with some token partisan stuff for each side. That's what I imagine the DNC is going for with this move. And although people need money ASAP, it would still be idiotic to let simply let the GOP take advantage of the emergency to help their corporate donors.

I can't say that the DNC would not have done this had the GOP not proposed a bill with unrelated demands. But now that the GOP has, there is no other reasonable move than go with a counter offer to try to force a compromise that doesn't push partisan politics.

Edit: To be clear, I am suggesting if the DNC proposed an only neutral bill, the GOP would oppose it until they got in at least some of their demands. Now they have been given a message they have to capitulate on something reasonably bipartisan if they want this to get out of the House.

helps the worker. increases prices across the board. worse of all was rent.

While I agree that it should just be a clean bill for now(Good proposals, but let's focus on that AFTER people can afford food/rent), it ultimately doesn't matter.

Even if it's a clean bill, Mitch makes up some excuse to delay things, then comes back with a bill with bullshit added on.

Also Airlines: Spends the money they get on more buybacks.

At least that's what I'm guessing. Investing in your workers seems downright UnAmerican these days.

this is what people don't understand. raising minimum wage doesn't actually help long term. it helps very briefly till the market adjusts and finds a new bottom or $0 and goes up accordingly.

Raising minimum wage infinitely is how you end up with over inflated currencies.

Not saying what's going on in the system we have now is ideal, but just jacking up the minimum wage isn't going to help for more than a year or two.

In the end, the kind of stuff they're putting into these bills could have a substantial impact on the country. For both sides, they are well worth opposing and a rushed bill is not excuse to compromise your moral/political vision of the country.

I agree with you that it is slimy to try to exploit an emergency to try to shove partisan goals into a bill so they can pressure the opposition into voting yes by claiming they are holding up their aid money.

I could see the DNC having done this first, and I'm certain they would have done this had they controlled the presidency and one of the chambers of Congress. But now that the GOP has started this game, it must be played. These are not trivial policies being attached to this bill, and it needs to be negotiated until they are trivial.

There is room for debate on these issues, but exploiting a crisis to ram in political ideologies is grossly irresponsible.

Have separate bills for social justice and climate change legislation. It doesnt belong in an economic stimulus plan.
