Spain, France, Iran, etc.

Is it because we are still in the 'early' stages of the pandemic here?

There isn't nearly enough data to come to any reasonable conclusion. That won't stop people from trying, though.

In Italy, 23 percent of the population is over age 65, compared to the US, where that population is 16 percent.

People don't die right away when they get coronavirus. It takes weeks if they are in the vulnerable group like old people. So probably due to US stats being in the early stages.

We are early. Take all the 8000 cases in New York that just came up today: we will have to wait a week or two or three or more to see what deaths result from that

As others have said, the large number of newer infections have not begun to die, and our system is not truly swamped yet.

45% of closed cases in Italy have resulted in death.

There could be various reasons, as mentioned: different population demographics, relative lack of testing, being in the early stages, etc.

Too early in the stage to get any conclusive data. The worst part about the Covid-19 is that is has a high incubation period when it comes to symptoms so identifying on who should be taking the test just makes it harder.

Also to note, its still fairly new to certain areas in the nation. my cousin is a nurse and she said her hospital has "potential" cases, but it takes a few days for the results, so even if an individual dies they can't immediately announce it as a confirmed Covid death...the number of cases confirmed is growing so, unfortunately, the death rate will probably be increasing and showing itself over the next few weeks.

It still early for us compared to other countries. We are also a pretty big country, it won't hit us all at once when compared to Italy.

Houston started testing yesterday 250 people per day on several locations we are suppose to get the results tomorrow starting from those more took tests today and they will be releasing the info as the days go by. Once they're released we will know for sure how bad it really is here. We are in voluntary lock down starting tomorrow, if it gets worse then we will follow behind NY and other cities.

Lot of states are behind on testing so the numbers dont seem so bad
