Wearing one mask everywhere doesn't help. Whenever a health care worker goes into a room with a contagious patient, the mask, gown or other items they put on go straight in the trash as soon as they leave.

People have been saying that for decades. Especially in related to Japan's tendency to wear them whenever having a cold.

I'd say PPE has a good chance of preventing transmission if people knew how to use them right and it didn't influence their behavior.

Unfortunately, both those things are usually not true, and there's a large shortage of it, so we probably should make sure those who really need it get it first.

Masks are very effective at keeping you from spreading the virus.

They are not effective at keeping you from getting it unless you have a special type, wear it properly, and follow rules to keep it from getting contaminated.

If everyone wore masks that actually would help curb the spread a lot.

However that is impossible, so it's pointless to wear them unless you think you might have the disease.

You need the right masks and you need to know how to put them on and keep your hands off your head so that the virus can't get past them.

Gotta understand that most of mankind is dumb as fuck (irrefutable evidence: Trump is president). Basically these dumbfucks who can't even use the masks right are buying out all N95s in masses, using them when they're unnecessary, and leaving absolutely nothing for people who need them very urgently.

Obviously, the governments aren't innocent either, they should've been mass producing masks, antiviral supplies and ICUs since January or February.

as a healthcare professional, where does this notion that no protection is better than none? We can't all have n95 masks, sure, but there's no reason not to wear a regular one if you can get your hands on one.

Outside of Asia, masks are seen as something only the infected and medical staff wear. They spread fear and governments want to avoid panic coz panic makes illnesses spread much faster.

And like I said...mask shortages.

the means of an average joe and the means of a medical facility acquiring masks are two different methods.

and the shortage is already there. ambulance company i worked at makes you reuse the same mask all shift. the hospitals i go to every day are in similar situations. at this point it's self-preservation. get a mask if you can.

We have 100s of those at my job.

They look pretty cheap IMO.

But as a former painter I'm a little biased because I'm use to the 3M ones with the huge ass filters.

It's not nearly as good because liquid can go through the material. An authentic well made face mask is non pourous so water droplets from your breath and other people's breath won't get through

Agreed. I always lol when people say masks don't work save them for the medical professionals. It like they don't understand when a lie is created for a narrative. Which was there is a shortage of masks tell the public they don't work so we can stockpile remaining ones for health care workers. Masks do work and are better than no protection.

Masks are very effective at keeping you from spreading the virus. If you think you might be sick, then you should use them.

However if you plan on wearing them to prevent yourself from getting the virus, a regular mask will do almost NOTHING to protect you.

n95'2 100% work.
At my work if there's Fentanyl precautions, we're provided that, nitrile gloves, face shield, and a hazmat gown.
the only thing is if you're wearing an n95, you should be clean shaven to get a proper seal around your face.

To keep them from spreading the disease. The main reason that medical professionals wear masks is and always has been to protect the patients.

The chance of them having the disease is higher. They are in constant contact with vulnerable and high risk people. Do you want to go to the hospital and worry about catching it from your doctor?
