Home Depot said it has halted all sales of N95 masks at its stores and website and "redirected" them to be donated to hospitals, health care workers and first responders treating patients during the coronavirus pandemic. The company said Wednesday that it had issued the "stop-sale" order to all its stores and website for N95 masks, a tight-fitting respirator that offers more protection than standard facemasks. The move came as retailers have come under scrutiny for continuing to sell the respirators amid a shortage for health care professionals during COVID-19. Target last week apologized on Twitter for selling N95 masks in some Seattle stores. Mike Roman, CEO and chairman of N95 respirator maker 3M, last week criticized retailers that were still selling the masks. Its disappointing when you see that because were trying to redirect everything to health-care workers, Roman said on CNBCs Squawk on the Street.

Home Depot spokesperson Sara Gorman said in an email that the company "stopped replenishing stores when we ran out starting a couple weeks ago." "Then we asked stores to search for any leftover that might be in the overhead, or anywhere else, and to donate them locally. We redirected all shipments in our supply chain to be donated to hospitals, healthcare providers and first responders around the country. As an extra precaution, we locked them down with a stop sale beginning last week," she said.

they told people dont bother with masks. so not everyone wore a mask

however in other countries they said for god sake wear a mask. numbers were better in places where people wore masks.

now, in america, all those sick people who would have been fine if they had a mask are in the hospital in higher numbers and now they need treatment from mask wearing doctors

Masks only work when worn properly and clean shaven. A lot of "normal" behavior will void the its quality. Most Americans wouldn't use a mask properly. Health care professionals... are not most Americans.

the philosophy of reserving preventive measure for when you are already sick is very weird.

girl n95 masks are not the same as surgical masks. A casual person does NOT need an n95 mask shopping at safeway

I really would have liked a couple more myself. I work outside half the time and if the mask gets wet its a pain in the ass to wear. But we have no place to put it out of the rain. Not allowed to go to the car, because that would make sense....

CDC: Mask don't do anything if you aren't already sick, hospitals need them since they're at a high risk of exposure, which means they're at a high risk of spreading, which means it makes the most sense for our limited supply to be used by the people who are most likely to spread it

Because anything less than an n95 wont stop you from getting sick, and there are literally not enough n95 masks for everyone. Using the same mask all day is *not* proper usage
