https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/02/europe/domestic-violence-coronavirus-lockdown-intl/index.html

As the coronavirus pandemic forces countries everywhere to take unprecedented steps to restrict the movement of their citizens, victims of domestic violence have suddenly found themselves trapped at home with their abusive partners. Some are unable -- or too afraid -- to call the police, experts say.

On Sunday, a woman walked into a pharmacy in the French city of Nancy, one of the few public places still open after the government imposed a nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of a dangerous virus.

But the woman wasn't there for medicine; she was there to tell the pharmacist that her partner had abused her. Soon after, the woman's spouse was arrested by police.

So France, inspired by a similar scheme in Spain, has started telling victims to head to drugstores. If they can't talk openly in the store, they can simply say the codeword "mask 19" to the pharmacist behind the counter.

Yeah it sucks for many in abusive relationships especially if the partner is laid off.

It's definitely a terrible thing to think about, but it's probably more important for you to spend some time thinking about your perpetuation of the myth that domestic abusers are all men.

Not that uncommon actually. There are sometimes signs too in women's bathrooms indicating how to get help, etc.
But yeah this is definitely going to spike up abuse cases.

Great idea.
Can you contact CNN to run an article that adds in the line "while this story is about a woman who was a victim, that we need to understand there are men too who are victims, also even though there was no mention of a man being the victim, we feel we need to spread the message since Tenlaar on CE reminded us of it"

We get it dude, you don't read a fucking article about starving kids in 3rd world countries and say "remember there are starving kids in first world countries too!"

depending on where you live it can take a good long time for the cops to get to you, plenty of time for the abuser to get a gun and shoot you...

Thanks, I too think that it's a great idea to make a conscious effort to not equate domestic abuser with "violent POS husbands" as that perception really skews things and makes them worse in a variety of ways.

Fortunately you don't have to worry as no one would want to be around you long enough to abuse you.

Yeah this is something that most people probably don't think about as a side effect of the quarantine. A lot of people (men, women and even kids) are now stuck in the home with their physical/mental/sexual abuser. That's seriously messed up!

I'm glad there's some places that are trying to help, at leats.
