I was under the distinct impression people were really excited and happy after playing the demo, ok?

Apparently, I'm way off, if the FF7 Remake board is any indication. They are REALLY unhappy over there, ok?

100 gigs for what'll basically be a fifteen-hour game if you're a completionist who likes to stop every once in a while to take in the scenery. The combat isn't for everyone. Alleged spoilers had surfaced that can, at best, be taken with a grain of salt. Game boards on this site have a reputation for their toxicity and salt levels.

Of course people are hyped and still going to buy the remake in droves, but just as obvious is the idea that you're going to see people riled up in a negative manner.

It's hard to do remakes. If you copy the past then people feel like they're being sold the same thing they played 20 years ago. If you update things to please the modern crowd then the purists bitch and complain. Can't please everyone, that's just the way it works.

From what Ive seen its mainly the shut in super nerds complaining about it. The game looks like its going to be better than the original on pretty much all aspects.

It's one thing to delve deeper into a world's lore and add more to the world building, which can be a nice thing to do, but it's another to change events that made an original medium good in an attempt to draw in a crowd, because that's risky. I've seen the apparent ending and uhh... I will say one change was highly unnecessary in my eyes, and another was "lol wut?"

BS

Plenty of remakes are very successful, usually by changing important details as little as possible and just updating the graphics and quality of life type stuff (easier access to save spots / save anywhere; better menu navigation; indicators for status effects; that sort of stuff).

It's literally "easy money", that's why so many companies are doing it.

i think you're thinking of remasters, which require basically just up-ressing and reformatting the exact same game (some maayyyy go as far as to do some quality-of-life changes), ok?

remakes are almost like building a brand new game from the ground up, and require the resources you'd need for developing a new game. rarely are remakes seen as simple, lazy cash-grabs. they do it for the money, but it's nowhere near as simple as a remaster, ok?

The two names seem to have become blurred to the point of being indistinguishable now. A lot of "remasters" come w/ new content, and a lot of "remakes" seem to be fairly shallow in the changes made.

In any case, few if any FF7 fans were asking for a remaster than completely changed the combat system and split it into three separate full priced games. Making it "hard" (so they could justify making 3x the sales) was all SE's choice.

I'm not doubting they do well, lots of new gamers to sell to. Every remake gets its share of haters though. Maybe the mechanics improve but they hate the new graphics or voice acting. Or like I remember from the Crash collection they said it felt different due to collision boxes. One level is way tougher to walk the side of the rope bridge.

Well sure, half the work is already done. Less time in development means quicker to break even.

Nah, it sounds like they're anything but chill over there, and I'm over here just rolling my eyes ad carrying on with my life.
