No it's not. If enough people voted third party, it could change things in the political landscape.

the folly of representative democracy is that most people only think in terms of the next electoral outcome - and most importantly, their party winning

fact of the matter is, losing elections is what makes parties change, but that is antithetical to short-term party goals

Is this even a serious post? Lollllll the dude has essentially shut down investigations over his conduct, fired people looking into his illegal affairs, sexually harassed and possibly raped dozens of women in his lifetime, has dementia and cant even form coherent sentences(just like Biden), has the mental capacity of a 3rd grader, and has failed in the US Coronavirus response, allowing thousands and thousands of people to die because he was too arrogant to admit early on that this virus was a bigger deal than he was saying.

And do you realize what the problem with this is? You guys really want a progressive candidate, and every single time, the DNC shoves some moderate down your throat, and you go along with it. You're never going to get a progressive candidate if you keep sacrificing what you believe in and not standing up against what YOU want. Send the DNC a message.

It used to be the political parties would learn their lesson if they would LOSE. If Biden wins, you're actually getting further away from a progressive candidate moving forward. One can make the argument that they will believe a moderate candidate is what you want.

but to answer your question tc:

  • if you're progressive, there's the green party (not familiar with their frontrunner, but seeing as he co-founded the party, he's got that going for him)
  • if you're fiscally conservative, there's the libertarian party (their frontronner is of the party's liberal wing though)
  • if you're socially conservative, there's the constitution party (their frontrunner is trash though)

Then the DNC basically owns you. They know you can be pushed around and your political ideology can be stretched into what they want.

If you truly believe in your heart of hearts that progressivism is the way to go, don't compromise on what you believe. If you believe the future of this country is at stake, then don't make compromises.

Technically if you get enough people to vote for a third party candidate, a change can happen. Last I heard if you can get 5% of people to vote green (nationally), they will become a nationally recognized political party.

You can't blame people for thinking about third party candidates. There was some poll back in 2016 that CNBC posted that claimed 57% of Americans wanted a third choice.

I realize any vote not for Biden is a vote for Trump, which is why, as a Bernie fan I was thinking I would just vote for Trump instead of writing in Bernie. That way the effect of my wishes is actually fully there and not half assed. I'm in a dilemma where it seems like the democratic party is is hopeless in its potential to put up progressives as their mainline candidates. They're just detracting from any real hope for change by putting in some stand-for-nothing default candidate. So do I fight my own party so there's actually going to be some advancement down the road? Do I take a blow today so that the future might change? Is it better to have a progressive after 4 more years of Trump? What about 8 years of Biden? Is that just as bad as 4 years of Trump? What if we still don't get a progressive in 4 years? Idk this is all very shitty. I don't want to reinforce lameduck candidates.

I don't care for a progressive president. I don't want Trump do be president. So I'll make sure my vote doesn't help him in anyway. Only way to do that is to vote for Biden. Voting for a third party candidate in the presidential election can help Trump so I won't do that. A third party candidate will never get enough support to win this election. Its not a hard decision.

It's a process. If I hated the current regime, I'd start thinking more long-term over short term. 4 more years of Trump isn't as bad as what could come after that. You could, in theory, have a third party by the time those 4 years are over.

It's four years vs the rest of all time.

Something to consider.

Their hubris was the same in the last election.

They refuse to eat some humble pie and triple down on their bad decisions.

We've learned nothing from the last election. We deserve trump for the next 4 years. I guess we haven't hit rock bottom yet.
