Seriously, I've only managed to beat two of the Robot Masters thanks to a couple of E-Tanks I found. And now there's Bit and Byte to worry about? How the fuck am I supposed to beat Bit?

I wiped Vile out on Volt Catfish's stage, though. Dude was easy, not that I'm complaining.

Yes it's a lot harder, you also need to know their patterns, for me Blizzard Buffalo's weapon kills bit.

The damage intake got increased about 40%. I think it's partly due to the x chip you can get for 75% reduction in damage to make it not stupidly OP

I think X is still my favorite game in the series. 2 felt like a step back - my guess is that they spent a couple of years working on X before dropping it onto the SNES, and then they made 2 in a year to fit the standard Mega Man yearly release schedule. Even 3 is a year after 2 if I'm not mistaken - but 2 feels particularly... limp. Even with my favorite X Robot Master design in Morph Moth, the level design just doesn't hold up.

I'm not disliking X3, but it's a real kick in the nuts so far with the difficulty.

Are there any more Vile fights in the Robot Master stages to keep a look out for? pls no spoil if he comes back during the boss rush at the end of the game, I'm pretty sure he'll come back but still

I'll say one thing about 3's level designs - there are an ungodly amount of areas to grind E-Tank energy

Honestly I thought 4 was mostly easy as well.

And 6 was also really easy...for the one stage that played like a traditional X level. The rest of those gimmick stages were hard as balls for the wrong reasons

Maybe not, but in regards to farmable areas, I think 3 has a glut of them compared to 1 and 2.

The only area I really knew about in 1 was the area before the last boss fight, where you can equip the shield and keep busting up those catapillers for health and weapon energy and stuff. In 2, there was an area right at the end of Morph Moth's stage where you could grind those green bugs.

In 3, it feels like every second stage has a pretty safe energy farming method. Like right now, I'm at the start of some hangar stage - I think it's Gravity Beetle. And there's a ladder between two platforms, and on both platforms there are these two purple dudes who can aim their long snoots. It's a no brainer to switch from platform to platform, collecting energy.

In another stage, there's an area with those green cannons that fold down to ankle height if you get too close. You can zip back and forth between the two cannons pretty easily.

I dunno, maybe it's because I'm getting my ass kicked so thoroughly kicked in 3 that I'm looking for opportunities to fill my E-Tanks, but it feels like there's been a substantial increase in energy farming areas in 3 over 1 or 2.

Then they spun it as "Zero is hard mode" but no, it's really just a few bosses they couldn't balance right. The levels are actually a lot easier as Zero.

Since you still have access to the select screen between Sigma stages a good grinding spot would be the first stretch in Armadillo. Just use charged Rolling Shield and go back and forth respawning the bats. Otherwise yes many will use the shield on the caterpillars in the final stage.

As for X2 there are hidden rooms where when you use a charged Silk Shot a whole bunch of energy pickups will appear. Crab's is in the wall as you descend after the sub hatch opens. Ostrich has one behind breakable blocks up on a ledge right before the long ramp.

and yes X3 is a much harder game in general. Everything hits like a truck. Grinding here can be more difficult. One method I found is to find an area full of enemies and use a charged Frost Shield. There's something about the weapon that yields more energy when destroying enemies. Then of course there's the Golden Armor which will fill your health as you stand still.

X3 is pretty tough at first. I remember thinking I was hot shit at Mega Man because I had beaten Sigma in the first game, then I got X3 as a birthday gift and repeatedly. Got. My. entire. Ass. Kicked.

By every fucking boss--at least, the ones I could reach. I didn't manage to beat Blizzard Buffalo until I found the leg upgrade.
