free market purists will argue that undermining it raises costs, but unconstrained, multinationals operate without being beholden to the pressures of of government (which it buys the favor of), organized labor (which it undercuts), or domestic competition (which it undermines by means of regulatory capture facilitated by legislative cronyism)

and then there's international finance, but that's another discussion completely

while economically optimal, the catch-22 is that it subjects domestic labor to competition with jurisdictions that command the lowest possible standards for labor conditions/protections/compensation.

there is a bit of an ongoing tradeoff between reduced costs of goods and services produced abroad and the availability of employment with compensation conducive to consumption of such goods domestically.

alleviation of barrier to entry and other more unnecessary regulatory burdens with respect to domestic competitors - and the tax burden on both labor and small capital - might help with this standard of living issue, though i'm not sure to what degree.

So long as there's a transition to a service economy in the wake of manufacturing moving somewhere else, it's not a big issue.
Low-skilled laborers are the ones who get screwed, as the standard-of-living improvements price them out of any job.

Also elections generally aren't held during a global crisis. It will no doubt effect how the election turns out.
