Jabodie 04/09/20 4:35:18 PM #1:	I'm getting my PhD, but a lot of my buddies finished their MS last May and are in the job market right now. Unfortunately this industry is heavily dependent on the construction industry, which itself is dependent on the overall health of the economy. Most offices where my friends work have rescinded full time offers for upcoming May graduates, and tbh it won't be too long before the layoffs start. Same thing happened in 2008. When I was interning I met a lot of people that went back to school because they got fired/couldn't get a job in the bad economy. I feel bad your mate just moved to Aus, rather unfortunate timing. It's a stunning place and fantastic beer. It's the luck of the draw really. That's a good point, a friend of mine had his office do salary cut. The percentage was based on salary. The higher the salary, the bigger the cut. Im a bartender, and my coworkers and I all got effectively laid off while the bar focuses solely on takeout. The managers took a 30% pay cut. Im actually impressed corporate is keeping everything open, but theyre centrally controlled and maybe genuinely care about the people whove worked for them for decades.
