The more I play this, the more I'm realising that Cloud is strong, but he's not a strong protagonist. I mean, a lot of that is likely due to the whole being experimented on and having his personality be subdued due to emotional trauma from Nibelheim, the mako bath, and Zack dying literally in his arms. It's more interesting seeing how everyone else acts and reacts around him more than seeing how he acts and reacts to anything. He's steeped in 90s stoicism anti-hero culture, like Squall is.

Isn't that the point of Cloud from the get-go? He wasn't a strong personality in the first place.

Yeah, which is why he flunked out of Soldier, and was reduced to a grunt Shinra soldier. Everything he is in FFVII is the result of believing himself to be Zack - that is, Cloud's idealised version of Zack. Basically like what he sees Sephiroth as. His is a much more interesting character arc when played out over the whole of FFVII, not the snippet we see in Midgar.

as for the sneaking part, i failed once(kicked the same bucket as you guys) and then i passed it, you don't hold the analog full tilt like you normally do since cloud doesn't have a walk

I _love_ the characters in Wall Market. Kotch & Scotch, Madam M, Chocobo Sam, Johnny's appearance, etc. They're all great, though I see a _lot_ of Cidny in Leslie's get up.

Tifa's development happened in the 5 years from when she left Nibelheim to when she meets Cloud again, if'n you know what I mean.

just remind yourself of a few things about Jessie throughout the game.

I fucking love the coliseum. They turned that weird ass enemy you fight in the Train Graveyard (the one you can steal a weapon for Aerith from) into a boss encounter in the Remake. It's awesome.

I mastered the squat mini game. Ironic that my thumbs started cramping just to keep Cloud from cramping up. Jules is a tough fucker to beat. You have to be nearly perfect.

The Honeybee Inn is so deliciously stupid. I love it. I'm annoyed that they tied in the DDR-esque button prompts so you're focusing on that instead of the dancing, but the entire thing is so ludicrous that I don't care.

They went all in with everything at Wall Market. A lot of people were worried it wouldn't even be in the game because of how weird it was, but they went even crazier. They absolutely did not hold back.

I'm in the sewers. They actually put some work into the moveset for Frog status, my new favorite status effect.

For what it's worth, later on you can actually get an accessory that lets you start the battle as a frog.

I'm doing the plate part in Chapter 12. I like the bit of connective storytelling they do here. I completely forgot about Aerith showing Cloud the secret tunnel from Wall Market to Sector 7. I'm glad they're allowing us to have our cake and eat it too, what with all the townspeople being evacuated from the slums. Can't say the same about those living up on top of Sector 7. Didn't the original game say that they were a bunch of warehouses or something? Maybe I'm just mixing it up with DBZ's dub.

I also like the subtle foreshadowing of Rude's infatuation with Tifa by saving her from Reno's bullet hell. At least they explain away how Aerith was able to get Marlene to safety, though the full weight of the scene is somewhat muted with everyone being saved. The impact still remains, though.
