Not from this guy. Never looked into it because I thought it was stupid that the game has an ending.

Are you talking about Animal Crossing? If so, huh?

Doesnt nintendo have a history of intentional creating scarcity of their products? Im sure the game is selling very well but its got some steep competition this year

I don't know people are telling you this is incorrect. As somebody who is very close with a business owner, who deals with Nintendo, it is 100% real. He once tested the theory by pre-order 300 Pikachu 3DS'. Since the point of a pre-order is to test market demand, there should be more than enough units produced, right? Wrong - he'd be lucky to get 3. Hell, when the New 3DS dropped he actually had to go to Wal-Mart and buy out their stock (from multiple Wal-Marts) just to meet his pre-order. As someof you are aware, nerds are an angry bunch - if you don't have their pre-order, you will not see their money again. And, for the record, this is in the same city as the TC so I am not surprised there was a limited supply of anything Nintendo.

Do people honestly think it is a coincidence Nintendo ships on Friday as well? It is because it lets the item sizzle for the weekend, nobody is getting a re-supply until Monday, at least. Even then, the orders are limited so that is unlikely.

I mean we tend to pay off our pre-orders that we have done way in advance, so yeah we'd be pretty annoyed if we didn't get the thing we paid for.

We wouldn't act like jackasses afaik (can't technically speak for others but feel pretty confident about it) but we'd definitely be annoyed. Would end up being a huge thing reconsidering repeating pre-ordering from them, not out of spite but because of the lingering doubt of being able to deliver.

But we don't buy new games/pre-order that much at all. The only reason I say we instead of the people in my house is that some are specifically for me. I personally don't have a lot of new games anymore that I care for (or income for that matter), spouse has a few, and sis hardly cares about games anymore (with a few exceptions).

And that's without counting digital sales! That's awesome.

Especially where I expect the current quarantine situation has resulted in a greater proportion of digital sales than usual. Animal Crossing is also just a good game to get in digital form because it very much promotes short, impulsive bursts of play, and getting a digital copy makes it easy to play that way while out and about. I imagine digital sales will add quite a bit to that.
