So I filed my unemployment back on March 16th when I was only getting reduced hours at the time. But now that Ive been laid off since March 27th I've been attempting to update my claim every day since then, but the EDD website is missing the fucking button thats supposedly suppose to be present under Notifications which would allow me to reopen my claim. When I call I never can get to a person. The longest I have waited for is an hour and 30 minutes before I was disconnected.

Im only receiving $288 a week because of this fiasco, and Ive only received 2 weeks worth of payments so far ($576 total). Meanwhile my brother, who also lost his restaurant job like I did, has received 4 payments. Two $405 payments, and two $1050 payments. So because he waited longer to apply until the point where he was actually not working at all, he gets all this extra money. But meanwhile, I was proactive in trying to get assistance as soon as possible and it has blown up in my face.

Safari and now Firefox, same result. The "re-open Claim" button is supposed to be located within Notifications.

The first week the additional payments can be made is for the week ending April 4, not before. Separate retroactive payments will be automatically issued soon to those who had an active claim that week,

from this article:
https://www.sfchronicle.com./business/networth/article/Unemployment-benefits-in-California-to-jump-600-15191329.php

Also, have you certified the weeks of 04/04/2020 & 04/11/2020 (based off your screenshot)?

I just re-certified today for the weeks you mentioned. My issue though is my brother is making what I should also be making and were in the exact same position in the same state.

My sister opened her claim in late march, they automatically applied the 600 when it was applicable and retroactively paid it for the week before last after she'd already claimed and been paid for.

Granted this is alabama, but I'd expect California to have their shit together more when it comes to unemployment claims.....

I know it's trying times, but I'm surprised how mad people are getting about free money. There was a lot of people raging on the news today because the check went to the tax filer instead.

I haven't gotten anything from unemployment and I've been out just as long. Support is a busy signal at all hours. It's pretty dumb, but I assume I'll get it all eventually. I'd think the same for you.

Where are you living in California that $288/wk is remotely appropriate?

I will say, though, that being guaranteed any sort of income for that many months would be nice. I live in the state that's only slightly better than Florida in unemployment insurance because Republicans gutted the program to save businesses money. We have 3 months before we're fucked, and $288/wk would be considered decent. I absolutely guarantee they sit on their ass, too, because they're chomping at the bit to reopen businesses at the expense of all the little people. If they squeeze us, they can leverage that to squeeze our governor.

Well it isn't free money considering that we all paid for it.

I know your pain OP. I was hospitalized back in August and applied for short term disablity with the EDD website and back then (before all this pandemic fiasco) I ran into issues with the website not having the correct buttons to submit my info. I got so frustrated I had to get my dad to help me drive down to the local EDD office and submit the paperwork in person.

Most of those states base how long unemployment can be drawn based on unemployment levels, so if this doesn't blow over for the most part they will most likely be changing. Either way the cares act extends it by 14 weeks

Only employers have to pay into the states unemployment fund. The federal aid is pure money printing

NY is horrible as well right now as well as most states.

My friend needs to call in to confirm some shit and he's basically fucked. He can never reach them.

People last week were using autodialers to call hundreds of thousands of times and no one could get through. So they started calling you instead within 72 hours. He got a call just to tell him this. Then the next morning, he got another automated call saying expect someone human to call him.

Then he missed the third call and it's been a week and he's just stuck in limbo. No voicemail left or anything. The fucking site has a message center where they could just message him what they need, but nope. Let him just sit and wait for who knows how long with no certainty. You still can't get through unless you literally make calling all day for several days straight your job. Like, you can't even get to the menu to input your SS, which starts the queue.

I get that these are crazy times, but the reason it's falling apart is because the tech is ancient. NY had to get Google to help for their UI site.

Like, all the US government systems are on the brink of collapse, meanwhile some of the best technology companies on the entire planet that can easily handle this are right over in Silicon Valley. They'll probably get bailouts and shit, yet they never give anything back like revamping everything for free.
