Well for starters its not two Sephiroths. Its the same Sephiroth manipulating Cloud. The whole lets defy destiny line is talking about how he just tricked Cloud and co. into defeating the arbiters, or the whispers that kept things from breaking off predetermined fate. Theres room for new story beats, but its not a sequel to AC or two timelines converging. The Zack scene was a flashback that was happening in real time with the events of the ending (though there is still room for an implication that he survives because of what the party did, wont know until part 2)

Other than some minor plot points, the core story effectively plays out the same, and I really dont expect that to change in subsequent parts

Sephiroth was always able to clone himself. It's not that there's "two" or more Sephiroths. It's just so the ones you see throughout the story are clones and always have been. Cloud doesn't necessarily know that, but we do as viewers since when the clone expires it leaves behind a black feather.

Doesn't really seem ambiguous to me. Sephiroth gives cloud 7 seconds at the end of time to do whatever he want. He uses that time to save Zack, Biggs, Jessie, and may/may not also save Aerith.

While I'm sure some story beats will be the same, the old ending is officially retconned since you see it in a flashback and Red says "that's a vision of the planet's future if we fail here today" fail in that sense being fail to defeat the arbiters.

Sephiroth cannot clone himself. His will is simply so strong that he is able to control Jenova. Jenova is a shapeshifter - that is all.

Doesnt Red only see the extra scene where he and his offspring run up to an abandoned Midgar some hundreds of years after the original events? I wouldnt say that means the OG ending is retconned, unless he saw something else Im not remembering correctly.

Fair enough with Zack. I still think its somewhat ambiguous. Also I know you see Jessies gloves but that doesnt necessarily mean shes alive. Really dont see how theyll factor into the overarching new plot in a major form anyway, unless during the weapon attack they pull a Wedge and get to say they helped slightly ala this

Also that flash is straight up Sephiroth/jenova manipulation to kill the arbiters as they have zero context for what theyre seeing

Durrr its not the complete game is such a blatantly trash take. The conclusion is satisfactory and sets up nicely for the next part, like a series is supposed to do. If you havent played it, you havent seen the scale theyre aiming for. There is no fathomable way they could put the entire OG game in one product at the magnitude theyre hitting. Its simply not possible.

If you dont like that and think they shouldnt go balls to the wall with the world building, fine, but after playing it I can confidently say this is far from a cash grab and it has its own satisfactory conclusion

If you paid attention to the subtleties of Aerith's dialogue, you'll notice she already knows everything

And that's because in the beginning when the whispers show up, it's because Aerith came back through the lifestream to warn Cloud but her presence defied fate. She needed to play stupid and act her role for the whispers to go away. Same thing in the Shinra HQ

And then at the bridge when she sees Sephiroth, she gets very unsettled and emphasizes that he doesn't belong here and everything about him is wrong. She knows the Sephiroth she's seeing came through the lifestream to change fate and that's the same Sephiroth Cloud defeated in FF7 and AC
