Wow. Who would have thought Arkham City vs The Last of Us would end up being the toss-up match when Souls > TLOU was one of the heavily debated matches pre-contest. TLOU might not even get there with this turd-like performance of not being even able to double a blizzard game and by far the most hated one in its franchise

It is really hard to picture a scenario where BioShock Infinite doesnt beat Diablo III by at least 58%

I knew there was something to me never seeing that Crusader 2 game that lost to TLOU, it's nearly impossible for me not to even hear of games that are considered for a top tier competition like this. So I immediately thought of it as the weakest in the competition by default.

Or maybe i am wrong and D3 has a rally

Oh, I've definitely seen stuff like that on Reddit before. It could be more common on general subs, like /r/games, but I've seen game comparisons made on even specific game subs.

I think I agree with this to an extent. The problem is that Kazuma's 39% on Bomberman wasn't actually that bad of a result, especially by this contest's standards. If Yakuza 0 is really substantially stronger than Kazuma, MGSV hasn't actually fallen off much from 2015, which I find hard to believe with everything that's happened in the interim in mind.

I do fully agree with your second take, though. Dark Souls doubling MGSV should be the expected result at this point, and I could maybe even see it shooting for a tripling.

Based on what evidence? Please don't say 2015, because BioShock Infinite has become wildly divisive, whereas Diablo III has recovered nicely from its rocky launch, and the two series have always been in similar positions here on GameFAQs.

I have bad news for you: your anecdotal evidence is leading you astray here. In order for Crusader Kings II to be weaker than Inside, Doom would have to be capable of at least 61.7% against The Last of Us directly. Or, to put it another way, Resident Evil 2 would need to beat The Last of Us with 67.5% or more of the vote. Actually, there's several more bottomfeeding games I could similarly compare in this bracket, but Inside alone proves my point.

BioShock 1 vs. Diablo II would be a debatable match. And to be fair, in a debatable match between an FPS and an RPG, you'd probably do well to take the latter.

Plus people still play Diablo III. No one really plays BioShock Infinite. It was a weird case where I heard lots of praise for it up to 2015 and then after that, the rare occasions it's mentioned are not favourable.

Even then there's still plenty of room for BioShock Infinite to beat Diablo III and still have The Last of Us stronger than Arkham City. It's going to be a lot closer than many of us imagined pre-contest. Arkham City is probably more this site's kind of game anyway.

I'm going to root for Batman there though anyway since it seems more like my kind of game than The Last of Us.

@MetalmindStats I'm trusting my gut here that Crusader got the majority of its votes due to anti-voting TLOU. See: D3 also over performing despite it being polarizing and a Blizzard game. Ppl love DOOM for being an old school fps type game and so I think it's not getting much anti-voting. Unlike TLOU, the whole game seems to have an aura of badassery that the internetz gravitates towards to without making enemies.

So yeah, I'm aware that the data says Crusader 2 is bit stronger than INSIDE but I would be shocked if it can beat it H2H.

I'm not worried about TLoU > Batman, but TLoU > Dark Souls is basically just hoping Dark Souls is also weak. I don't think it looks very great today, but it's probably gonna get out of the division just fine.

A lot stronger, actually. Consider that The Last of Us mustered 40% on Kingdom Hearts II in 2015, which then almost broke 45% on Super Smash Bros. Melee. There's also not much reason for TLoU's strength to have diminished since then, especially since Diablo III being stronger than Halo 3 on GameFAQs checks out.

The thing is that Crusader Kings II has an actual devoted fanbase. It's small, of course, but it's certainly there judging by the circles I'm in. Inside, in contrast, has some fans but not really an entire fanbase here on GameFAQs. Of course, there's a certain lack of total transitivity that comes with a concentrated fanbase like CKII's against a potentially antivote-susceptible game like TLoU, but I don't think it's enough to make CKII drop that hypothetical match.

Friend of mine is all upset about realizing his bracket is listed as "fun". Said he 100% had no option to switch between fun and prizes. I told him it was clearly there and he was like NOPE WEBSITE IS HORRIBLE BAD DESIGN.

Speaking of which, today's Diablo III performance makes Xenoblade look even stronger for blowing out an arguably less-reviled Blizzard game compared to TLOU's pedestrian showing here.

I'd say BT might have a point that this might be as much BioShock being weak as it is Xenoblade 2 being strong, but what a bastion of arrogance this guy is. Good grief.

Diablo III beating Bioshock is one of those things that doesn't pass the smell test for me and I really wouldn't have taken that pre-contest. VLR would have had to get appreciably stronger as well.

Among critics, sure, but I've noticed a palpable tone of fan criticism. I remember a topic on another board asking about the most overrated game of the gen, and TLoU "won" by a landslide. Granted, I don't think it's in real danger of dropping the ball to Batman next round, but I'd wager it's weaker now than five years ago.

It's way too respected for that. I think both of its performances so far have been powerhouses, and it's going to rise like 10% against an old opponent next round.

I just don't trust anything made by Naughty Dog to not age like milk. Crash, Jak, Uncharted - all hugely acclaimed when they came out, ads everywhere, game changers in one regard or another, and then people got sick of them. TLOU is very fortunate that it hasn't oversaturated itself with sequels in the same way. I don't trust it to maintain more than midcard status, I've seen enough praise and re-releases of the game to see people start getting sick of it. Not enough to tarnish the good that's in there, but I think substantial enough to hold it back.

There's a theoretical timeline I think about where people 1000 years from now wonder what we were like but the only literature that has survived is Sonic furry fanfiction, and it becomes like Beowulf where kids read it in school.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of TLOU, but Ellie was great. The fact that I like her so much is the reason I hate the ending.

Jak I don't think I'll ever see as anything but a decaying corpse. A decaying corpse worth more than a decent waifu, but like, I don't know if I'd take Jak or any Jak game over, say, Shadow the Hedgehog or Sonic Unleashed (to name a few poorly-aged contemporaries)

Jak has never looked strong. The 2013 match isn't a good match to judge his strength since he was up against 2 fodder characters prior to the rally. Chances are X and Ryu would've destroyed Jak in Round 2.

Crash has come back around largely thanks to the remakes of the original games, but he still was able to look decent back in 2013 despite the last real Crash game prior to the revival being released way back in 2008.

To be fair the entire platforming genre hasn't been the same since the 90s.

Crash is one of many platforming mascots who lost relevancy after that time.

I mean of course they'd have destroyed Jak in round 2. They're both top 25 characters. That's no shame on Jak, who has almost always been higher end fodder

I've never seen anyone hate on TLOU. I tried the game myself and wasn't really into it but i've never seen anyone say they hate it. Maybe it's just the vocal minority defending it to high heaven though.
