I mean really. Injustice 2 is the only game on there that didn't make a contest, and it could have stolen a victory somewhere. What Remains of Edith Finch is the only game that didn't impress, but then nobody expected it to.

This poll also isn't counting anything else that came from 2017 -- thinking of SMO here. That year's been beasting.
Even Edith Finch has almost certainly escaped dead last in the x-stats, or even bottom 3 when it was considered a contender for weakest game in the bracket.

Maybe we need BYIG 2 to see how 2017 measures up!

Being between N:A and P5 ain't too bad a place to be in and HZD did just defeat a former GotY-winner in the previous round too. It has legitimacy here.

EDIT: it's also a 2017-game. We've been seeing nearly all of them consistently impress so far.

horizon isnt in between nier and persona now though. Its a bit weaker. Probably slightly below nier

Registered Vote Result:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 7620 (80.97%)
Final Fantasy XV - 1791 (19.03%)

Anonymous Vote Result:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 7157 (78.77%)
Final Fantasy XV - 1929 (21.23%)

Monster Hunter: World vs. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
Registered Vote Result:
Monster Hunter: World - 4316 (45.86%)
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age - 5096 (54.14%)

Anonymous Vote Result:
Monster Hunter: World - 4411 (48.55%)
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age - 4674 (51.45%)

Breath of the Wild does about 2% better with registered users and Dragon Quest was over 2.5% better.

Based on the difference between registered and anonymous users in the Dragon Quest match, I can conclude that the Monster Hunter rally had no detectable impact on this match.

No, you really can't conclude that the multiple rallies had no detectable impact, not in a contest with such a strong bracket vote. Considering that only 25% of brackets had DQXI advancing to the divisional finals, it seems safe to say Monster Hunter had at least somewhat of a bracket advantage.

I'd be surprised if Horizon was stronger than Nier. Seems like one of those 'possible but unlikely' scenarios.

The Bloodborne match is going pretty much how I figured - BB looks really good but doesn't win. Not bad for the game that cleanly lost to Final Fantasy XII.

It appears to be in line with what Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest had done in previous rounds with registered users. In both round 1 and round 2, both games did better with registered users, with Monster Hunter having a larger overall split between registered and anonymous users. So when they finally meet up, one of them had to come out on top with registered users. It just happened to be Dragon Quest doing better with registered users. Even though the rally would have brought in some votes for Monster Hunter, the number of votes would have been fairly low (less than 300).

Nice job disproving your own point. If MH already had a larger registered user skew beforehand, then it had the bracket advantage on top of that, how could DQ possibly have a 2.5% registered user advantage if the rallies had no noticeable effect on this match?

that monster hunter match was like...1600 votes ahead of the one the day before which had a rally for divinity OS that stayed in the front page almost the whole day. compared the the one from 2 days before which had no rallies it was 3500 ahead

it definitely had at least a bit of an impact in the results.

Also this goes to show how strong RE7 was for a 16 seed. Neither horizon or fallout would have gotten 60 on it and depending on how much ne2 beats re2 or bloodborne by you could argue neither of them reach 60 either

thsrs damn impressive for a 16 seed

Based on percentage of votes from registered users. As this these were the first matches of round 3, I don't have a baseline comparison for percentage of votes from registered users should be for a normal round 3 match without any rallies. But based on the round 2 average for non-rally days, a normal round 2 match was around 53% registered users. This could be even lower for round 3, but it's not possible to determine this until I get more data.

The Monster Hunter rally could be anywhere from 200 to 700 votes. But as all rallies are going to have some backfire votes, a small rally is going to be less detectable due to the backfire votes masking whatever impact it might have had on the match.

Horizon was one of the few open world games this gen that had a fun hook. The gameplay loop of fighting the dinosaurs was really entertaining, unlike a certain Zelda themed open world ripoff.

In hindsight the open world of horizon serves little purpose

you're limited by the environment at every turn. nothing is interactive. the weather / time of day system doesn't change anything mechanically. its all there just to look pretty. Horizon is just another pretty good open world game in a generation full of them. its not really deviating from the cookie cutter formula in any way.

breath of the wild made the world itself an integral part of the game. thats a game that could never exist outside of an open world structure, because the way you interact with the world IS the main hook. that's the reason it stood out from all the generic "ubisoft game" open worlds. (which Horizon very much is....it's just a very well made "ubisoft game")

That could probably be attributed to the switch to 2 matches a day, though.

And Breath of the Wild being a vote draw on top of that.

I know there was a rally thread made in anticipation of the match, and it makes me wonder if the late start impacted the rally simply by not having the match open when the thread said it would.

There is so much more gameplay possibilities with Link in BOTW than with Aloy in Horizon that it makes Horizon look like a lazy game. Game designers should be more free to implement gameplay elements in Sony's blockbusters. They're pretty but they feel empty to play. You can't even parry attacks.

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the games in this bracket that interests me the most. A little depressing to hear people criticizing it like this, not saying you shouldn't.

From Round 2 on I've basically been voting for the game I'm more interested in. Today those were Mass Effect 2 and Bloodborne. All four of the games in today's match interest me a lot. At least I have beaten the original RE2 so I'd be able to compare and contrast the remake from it pretty well.

i did say Horizon is a very well made game

it just doesn't really get out of the mold established by almost every other open world game. if you enjoy stuff like the later assassin's creed games or ghost recon or farcry, you'll probably love Horizon as it is basically a more polished, more well thought out version of those.

i think i was too burnt out on that stuff when i played it, cause i ended up quitting after about 20 hours or so.
