It definitely picks up in intensity as the show goes on, but it is not as thrillery as Breaking Bad was.

This.

But TC, if you are looking for an explosive show it's not the show for your.

If you are looking for one of the best written shows ever, it is. The drama doesn't come from "Ultron is going to blow up the world if we don't hurry" the drama comes from everybody having such well written, compelling, and engaging characters.

That said it can be dangerous to watch any show begrudgingly, if you want to dislike a show bad enough even the best show probably won't win you over. Not saying you are like that though.

Yes, but BCS is a show all about character development. There are some big moments, but it's a beautiful slow build

Season 5 was 10/10 television. The last three episodes were incredible.

Kim is also one of the best characters in any show ever.

Yeah, i'm so glad I stuck it out. A few people said it's on par with Breaking Bad, and I watched 2 seasons and thought "lol, no" and by time I finished season 5 maybe those people have an argument. It just gets better and better, and it's a rare show that seems to peak during a late season, and they might cap it off at it's peak also.

as much as I enjoy the show, I didn't like what it did with Gus and Mike's characters; it exaggerated on what they were initially known for - Gus goes from some mysterious, cold, and efficient monster who's all about business, and now he's some cold guy who gives an order, and walks off screen enigmatically. and Mike goes from some capable fixer to the terminator

Jimmy/Saul, Kim, Ignacio, Chuck, and Lalo are great, though.

What? Mike is exactly the same in this. The freezer job and rescuing the chemical supplier in BB were just as "terminator" like.

Nah Mike is way more exaggerated.

I won't spoil it for TC but it gets bananas.

The cartel gang shootout was ridiculous but he is established early as a good shot and at least is training with the sniper rifle.

That's the one looney tunes moment in BB I just hated.

Excitement is a stupid concept. A show doesn't need pew pew guns or boom boom explosions to be good. Sometimes a show can superb purely through character drama. Do you know what is rarely exciting? Advertising pitches. But you know what, Mad Men managed to make you get hyped for everything single pitch. Not because it was exciting but because they represented a culmination of a character's growth and discovery. They weren't exciting but they were extremely engaging. Because they gave insight into the characters themselves.

Better Call Saul is generally more on the side of team character development than team exciting. You are watching a show about a struggling, sorta amoral lawyer. Not a wannabe meth kingpin. Any excitement is incidental to the overall development of characters. What is engaging is watching Jimmy's relationship with Chuck or Kim or Howard. So that when shit does go down it backs the kind of punch that really leaves you parts tingling.

tbh, my only real issues with BCS, like I said, was how Gus and Mike's characters were handled, since they were probably my favorite characters in BB (and Gus is one of my favorite villains ever), but besides that issue, I think that the series is amazing throughout.

and I imagine had I not seen BB, I'd have no faults with the show, but I doubt either Gus or Mike would be amongst my favorite characters.

Another development is the best original BCS character (though he is referenced one time in BB) appearing at the end of S4 and becoming one of the best characters in the BB universe almost immediately.

I know, I'm saying that in the show's timeline he will get fatter, and so that's why in Breaking Bad he looks younger.
