I miss Jon. Oliver is the closest we have. Colbert went full TDS and Samantha Bee was never funny or as smart as she thinks she is. Trevor Noah is funny but not on The Daily Show weirdly enough.

No. He's a lot closer than Trevor, but Jon was just one of a kind.

Nah. John Oliver is too preachy whereas Jon Stewart had more of a natural delivery about him.

Jon was one of a kind. He had the wit of a Mark Twain and the intelligence of an Obama. We'll never see something like that again for a long time.

He can be but John Oliver can also make fun of himself as he does quite often which is something Stewart was a master of as well.

Oliver is certainly the funniest of the old daily show crew.

I liked Jordan Klepper's show too, but apparently nobody else did since it only lasted a little while.

John Oliver started out okay but has become a tad too preachy

Stewart always seemed to keep it minimal on the preach and focused on commentary on the stupidity of politicians

Stewart also tried to keep his own side honest. If they did stupid shit he'd call them out on it which is kinda lacking with late night cheerleaders we have now.

Yeah he was probably one of the few on either side that did this pre-twitter news / online shows taking over cable, etc

Now you get a bit more of that because the big television companies can't control who is on air, but stewart was a rarity back then

I remember there were times Stewart was also get pretty preachy, but yeah he was definitely one of a kind. Even though he leaned left in a lot of issues, he would still call out Democrats or other Liberals when they say or do stupid shit. He would hold them accountable.

Colbert isnt less intelligent than Oliver, it's just that Oliver works at HBO where he is allowed more freedom compared to Colbert who is on CBS.

As much as a POS Bill O'Reilly is, I will forever give Jon Stewart credit and respect for actively engaging with him, for the two of them going on each other's shows, and for having that debate. Jon had no problem knocking somebody down a peg, but he was also willing to respectfully engage with people he deeply disagreed with and I find that trait commendable.

Yup. It actually used to be a liberal thing...listening to other viewpoints with respect. now its not really a partisan thing on either side. You have to find long form discussion to get the nuance across. TV format is outdated and will be gone in another decade imo
