Who cares about "approval ratings"? Both Clinton and Trump were poor candidates. Trump won by default, and will probably win again because either side can never get their shit together. But to the Reps credit, at least they voted, what was the Dems reason?

Yeah his approval rating has been between 38% and 45% for years. Its pretty much never been above 45%.

Also the rally-around-the-flag effect has already been erased from his approval.

Edit: And, honestly, I would be VERY much surprised if his approval rating wasn't inflated. I find it very hard to believe the real number has ever been above 30%. Nobody likes him outside of some very vocal, very crazy minorities.

This is very wrong. The haters want it to be true. So much so they've tried multiple ways to discredit him. They've failed each time. After what happened to the witch I'm not sure how much trust people put into polls but Trump isn't failing.

Keep in mind, 538's aggregate tends to slightly over-weigh the popularity by a percentage point or two. He was hardstuck in the mid-high 30's his first year, and I can only assume his "climb" to low 40's is result of people accepting the new normal. Which is a tad odd, since there's been a harsh rubberband effect against him and the GOP ever since.

Biden is like an average +8% nationally on Trump in polling. Meanwhile, virtually no polls show Bernie doing better than tying Trump. Bernie simply wasn't electable, which should be obvious with how his campaign turned out this time around.

And this is the kind of delusional thinking that led to shock when Trump was elected. And even if we went with your laughable lowball of 30%, that's still not the "nobody" and tiny amount you pretend, ultimately demonstrating how out of touch your opinions are compared to mainstream society. It's pretty much a classic take on the "I don't know how Nixon won. I don't know one person who voted for him!" attitude, where you're extrapolating based on your echo chamber instead of recognizing your echo chamber.

tbh, it's always been a hilariously weird narrative that Bernie was somehow a lock -- despite the fact he couldn't get his own supporters out to vote for him -- while Biden is a guaranteed loss.

Because people who tend to be vocal on the internet (especially social medias) tend to be vain, desperate, narcissistic people who are desperate for attention and a hive mind mentality. I'll give you a hint on what political spectrum most people on message boards and garbage like Instagram tend to be in huge majorities.

He won on electoral, lost on popular 46-48%. Gallup lists his earliest approval rating as 45%. Highest was 49%, lowest was 35%
https://news.gallup.com/poll/203198/presidential-approval-ratings-donald-trump.aspx

Obviously he couldn't have an approval rating "when was elected" since he wasn't a president at that point. However, his earliest approval rating was right around his popular vote result.

Clearly you don't, because no reputable polling outfit had him at less than ~30% chance to win immediately prior to the election.

Funny. I know math and can plainly see it doesn't add to 100%. The media cut off a few points just to make him look bad? He did win after all so these stories of 'the minority' aren't believable.

With a minority of the vote.

Kind of an important point there.

Also, most polls won't have approval + disapproval = 100%, because "neutral" or "no opinion" are also permitted answers.

That's what they want you to think, it's not true. I understand there's a tolerance of a few percent because of how things work. Point is you can't claim minority when it's that close and imprecise.

If you're just going to straight-up say that the numbers reported in the 2016 election aren't true, I can just as easily counter by saying that Trump must have only got <20% of the vote, because no sane person would vote for him.
